Grange Valley Primary & Nursery School

  1. School Information
  2. Pupil Premium

Our pupil premium strategy is reviewed annually.

The Pupil Premium is paid by means of a specific grant based on annual school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) in reception to Year 11. Looked after children also have an entitlement to a premium and a premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils.

The Pupil Premium is additional to main school funding and it will be used by this school to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most. Pupil Premium is clearly identifiable and it is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent.

At Grange Valley, Pupil Premium pupils are identified at the start of each financial year and interventions are planned for the following academic year that runs from September to July.  Your child will be eligible for free school meals if you (or your partner) are in receipt of any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and your annual gross income (as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs) is not more than £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit 'run on' – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit and net earnings, from your last assessment period, is not more than £616.67 per month. (If your household's net earnings change each month then they should not exceed £1,233.34 in the last two consecutive months or £1,850 in the past three months).

If you are entitled to free school meals you are also entitled to free school milk for your child and as of January 2022 we will give all new eligible applications a £20 voucher for their school uniform.

OBJECTIVES FOR PUPIL PREMIUM IN THIS SCHOOL

  • The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils

  • The funding will be used to narrow and close the gap between the achievement of these pupils and their peers. As far as its powers allow, the school will use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible for Pupils Premium and others

  • We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives by directly addressing their barriers to learning.

Barriers to Learning at Our School
Typically, the children at our school face the following barriers to learning:

  • Speaking & Listening difficulties – Low literacy skills on entry
  • Poor reading skills
  • Learning Behaviours - lack of resilience, confidence and endurance
  • Low Aspirations
  • Social and Emotional Behavioural Difficulties
  • Mental Health needs

We will ensure that our allocation of pupil premium spending addresses these barriers directly to ensure that disadvantaged children and others are able to reach their full potential.

SCHOOL POLICY

The Headteacher and Governing Body have agreed a policy for Pupil Premium to guide the use of funds and to ensure that it represents value for money.
