Welcome to our 2 Year Old Nursery

This week our theme has been 'Fireworks'.
This week we have been talking about the children's experiences of fireworks. The children have enjoyed responding to fireworks through movements. This week they visited the hall and enjoyed using streamers like fireworks, we moved fast and slow and then high and low. We also used musical instruments to make firework sounds.
We have been using a range of media to make some fantastic firework pictures. We could really see the progress some of our children are making with their fine motor skills.
This week we also had a surprise visit from the firefighters and their fire engine.

This week our theme has been 'Halloween'.
We have been talking about spooky characters like witches, wizards and skeletons. This week we joined our Nursery children at the Pumpkin Party and we all dressed up in spooky costumes. At the party we danced and played Halloween themed games. The children helped prepare the buffet and enjoyed choosing their own party food plates.
We went outdoors into our forest area to choose a pumpkin. Indoors we worked as a group to carve a face.
This week we have been practising using lots of different tools. We used scoops to scoop out the pumpkin seeds, hammers to hammer shapes into our pumpkin and our favourite was a handheld drill to make holes in conkers. We used the conkers to make spiders.
To end the week we baked Halloween cakes. The children choose how to decorate their own cakes with spooky decorations.

This week our theme has been 'Firefighters'.
We have been talking about all the special clothes the firefighters wear and all the special equipment they use. In our role-play area we have been pretending to be firefighters putting out fires and rescuing people.
We've made some fabulous fire pictures. We used red, yellow and orange paint to create our masterpieces.
To finish off our week we enjoyed stories and marshmallows around the camp fire.

This week our theme has been 'Woodlands'. It's been a week filled with lots of nature.
We read a book called 'Who's Hiding in the Woods?' Our children enjoyed lifting the flaps to find out which animals live in the different parts of the woods. They enjoyed making animal noises e.g. a squeaky mouse and a hooting owl.
We used dough to make our own little hedgehogs. The children choose which media to use for the spikes e.g. pasta, sticks, etc.
To finish our week off we went on a walk in our very own woodland area. We're so lucky to be surrounded by such beautiful scenery. We listened carefully to see if we could hear any of the woodland animals noises.
We would also like to thank everyone who came along to our open evening this week. It was so nice for our children to spend time exploring their future learning environment with their grown ups.

This week our theme has been 'Superheroes', we've had a super week!
The children practised their fine motor skills when using tweezers to free superheros from Spiderman's webs (spaghetti). Iceman froze all of our superheros into blocks of ice. The children used tools to crack the ice and free them.
This week we visited our school hall to explore superhero movements. We stomped like the Hulk, we climbed like Spiderman and flew like Batman.
We have been practising using words like 'big' and 'small' to describe the size of our superhero figures.

This week our theme has been 'Teddy Bears'. The children have enjoyed bringing their own bears into nursery to show their friends. Together we made a teddy bears picnic. The children enjoyed making their own jam sandwiches.
We went into the forest and sang a new song about teddy bears, can your child remember our song? The children made a teddy bear mask and we went on a teddy bear hunt.
We finished off our week by decorating teddy bear biscuits, they were delicious!

This week our theme has been 'All About Me'. The children have enjoyed looking in the mirrors and talking about their facial features. Each child has created a self portrait for our display.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their family photographs. At group time each child told their friends all about the people who live with them. We have displayed these in the home corner.
We had our first trip into the forest and enjoyed playing hide and seek,

We have had a super busy week in 2YO Provision!
We have had lots of new children starting Nursery this week and considering they're all only 2 years old they have made a great start. The children have been freely exploring indoors and outdoors and familiarising themselves with their new environment.
We have already introduced our routine and they have loved singing our hello song. Snack time seems to be their favourite and we have been practising how to sign thank you.
Thank you for your continued support at drop off and pick up times as the children and staff are getting used to all the new faces.
