During lockdown, all our learning from home was online, but that didn't stop the children taking part in fair trade fortnight.
Fairtrade fortnight happened this year on the 22nd February to 7th March.
The theme was ‘Climate, Fairtrade and You.’
#ChooseTheWorldYouWant
To start the fortnight off the whole school connected into a virtual assembly to discuss what Fairtrade is and the theme for the year and to learn about Fairtrade and celebrate the people who grow our food and drink. All the classes then had virtual sessions and projects based around Fairtrade, climate and the choices we can make daily to try and make a difference. The whole school focused on a key question each day and watched some videos and PowerPoints to use as a stimulus for discussion.
What is Fairtrade and how does it help farmers?
What Fairtrade products are available and where are they grown?
How is the climate different in West Africa KS1/Columbia KS2 to the UK? How is climate change affecting the growing season?
What is a day in the life of a Fairtrade farmer like?
How can you change the world through your choices?
To finish the learning, the children were set the task to record a short video clip of themselves suggesting some small ways in which they are going to change on a daily basis to make the world a better place. #ChooseTheWorldYouWant
