WB 13/07/2015 The Final Week of Term!

I can't believe I'm writing my last blog of the year! This year has flown by and what an amazing year we have had! The children have made me so proud and their progress both academically and personally has been a pleasure to watch and be a part of. Thank you children and parents for all your hard work and cooperation this year. It has been a wonderful journey and my job has been thoroughly enjoyed all because of the children! Lots of memories have been made in our classroom this year! Thank you parents and carers for all of your generous gifts and lovely cards, we all really appreciate them! You are all so kind. Thank you again for your continued support.

Year 3, have a fantastic summer and get ready for Year 4!

WB 6/07/2015

What a busy week Year 3 have had!

In Maths this week, we have been exploring angles as a movement of turn. We really enjoyed doing fun, practical activities which allowed us to turn two right angles right, or 180 degrees right which was a half turn. We also had fun with the beebots and linked in computing to make them move in different directions! We then explored right angles and decided whether certain angles were more than or less than a right angle. We understand this concept and enjoy spotting right angles in real life things!

In English, we have worked on our basic skills. We have used a dictionary to find out the meanings of unfamiliar words in lessons. We learnt lots of new, ambitious vocabulary and the children were proud of their new words! We have also been using subheadings and headings in non-fiction texts and have created an explanation text all about Captain Underpants for Year 2 to read.

In Science, we have created booklets all about Sound and this has really showed off our learning from this half term. Well done Year 3!

Year 3 had a fantastic Friday! We used our Maths skills and our creative skills in one lesson! We decorated biscuits exploring different kinds of lines and we made crispie cakes whilst testing our measuring skills!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend before our final week in Year 3!

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

It’s been another brilliant week in Year 3! The most exciting part of our week was definitely pond dipping at Sankey Valley! It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed ourselves. We walked down to the pond and then were taught how to get creatives from the pond by the rangers, Dave and Paul. We couldn’t believe the different types of creatures we found, such as water scorpions, blood worms, leeches and pond snails! The children behaved wonderfully and they represented Grange Valley extremely well.

This week in English we have been learning all about how prepositions can show place and time. Prepositions is a very ambitious word, why not test your child to see if they can explain what one is? We have also been trying to add more ambitious vocabulary in our writing to wow and impress the reader. Year 3 love finding impressive words in books and using them in their own writing!

In Maths, this week, we have been learning about fractions. We have found tenths of numbers and explored equivalent fractions. We really enjoyed using the fraction walls and using practical objects to help us learn. Some children even said that they love learning about and using fractions!

In Topic, we learnt all about the course of a river and we discovered lots about rivers that we never knew before such as during the course of their journeys, rivers have different effects on their landscapes.

I am looking forward to our final 2 weeks in Year 3! We have lots of exciting things planned with lots of learning too!

Have a lovely weekend, see you at the summer fayre,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 22/06/2015

Year 3 have had a very active sports week! Firstly, lots of our classmates in Year 3 took part in the Dance Festival at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday. Their performance was brilliant and I was so proud of them. They performed in front of a large audience and tried their very best. Their behaviour was also fantastic so well done to Year 3 and all of the dancers from Dance Club! Pictures of the children back stage are below.

We also had sports day this week! It was a fantastic day and our team spirit was great. The events were lots of fun and the afternoon also proved that we have some fantastic athletes in Year 3! Well done to everybody for trying their best and for showing super sportsmanship. It was a lovely afternoon.

As always, Year 3 have been working exceptionally hard. In English, we have continued our work on punctuating speech through Captain Underpants. The children have showed lots of progression with this and they are now punctuating speech to a really high standard. Well done Year 3! In Maths, we have explored length and converted different lengths and distances from mm, cm, m and km. The children were feeling very confident with this by the end of the week.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 02/06/2015

What an amazing week Year 3 have had! Lots of exciting things have been happening in school this week! We celebrated Science week by exploring bubbles.  We discovered that if the surface was dry, the bubble popped and if it was wet the bubble stayed. We also tried piercing our bubble with a straw, again if the straw was dry it popped, if the straw was wet we could put the straw right through the bubble. We were amazed!

We also became professional recording artists on Thursday and recorded a school CD! The CDs are on sale from now and they are £7.99 each. The funds raised will go towards new instruments for the children to use in lessons. It was an amazing experience for the children and they sounded amazing! I was so proud of their beautiful voices. I know I will be buying a CD to play in my car!

We also had a whole school Art Day on Friday. We had an eco-friendly theme and the bottle tops that we have been collected have gone to good use so thank you to everybody who brought them in for us! Our artwork is now on display in the corridor by the library. It looks wonderful! You can see lots of pictures of our morning below.

Sports Day is next Wednesday 24th June. It starts at 1.30pm. We are excited already!

Sankey Valley money deadline is Wednesday 24th June. Please bring it in as soon as possible.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly

WB 08/06/2015

What a fantastic, sunny week Year 3 have had!

This week, in English, we have continued with our Captain Underpants story. We learnt how to use inverted commas to punctuate direct and interrupted speech and we also created our own predictions about what may happen next in the story and shared these through role play. We had a really exciting day on Thursday as we went to Haydock Library to learn even more about Captain Underpants! We read a section of one of Davy Pilker's books and we created a comic strip showing the story. We loved discussing how we can tell stories through different mediums. The librarian said that the children were brilliant and were a credit to the school! Well done children I am very proud!

In Maths, we have been continuing our work on column addition and using our column addition skills to investigate patterns. We also solved 3 digit subtractions by counting on on a number line. This is a really useful skill to have!

In Topic, we started our new unit 'Rivers' and we are really enjoying it so far! In Science, we conducted a fair test experiment to investigate which material muffles sound the best! We made our own predictions and then reflected on our results afterwards.

We are really looking forward to next Thursday as we will be recording our class CD! We can't wait to become pop stars for the morning! We are also really looking forward to completing our EcoArt project next Friday! We have a very exciting week coming up!

Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 02/06/2015

Year 3 have had a lovely, short week this week!

In English, we have started our new book Captain Underpants. We have worked on using subordinating conjunctions and we have explored powerful verbs whilst creating our own invention for the Invention Convention that takes place in the book! We are really enjoying the book so far and we think it’s very funny! We can’t wait to go to the library next Thursday to learn more about Captain Underpants.

In Maths, we have explored the compact column addition method. Some of us still find the carrying over the 10s quite tricky so if you could practise this at home it would be great! We are really improving and are realising that it is a speedy method that help us to solve problems.

In Science this week we created our own musical instruments! We had great fun and enjoyed exploring the different sounds that the different instruments made. Pictures of this are below!

We have started a new Art unit exploring Collage. We looked at the story of The Hungry Caterpillar and learnt all about how Eric Carle used collage to create the illustrations in the book.

Thank you for all the bottle tops! We have got lots but we are still in need of more so keep collecting and bringing them in to class!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 18/05/2015

Thank you for all of the bottle top donations so far! We will still be collecting after half term! The more the merrier!

Year 3 have had an extremely eco-friendly week! Our week has been filled with talks from bee keepers, farmers and rangers! We also had a drama workshop with the Citadel which we really loved! We have also created some eco-friendly posters to promote eco-friendly values around school! This fitted in nicely with our persuasion unit as our challenge was to persuade people to be eco-friendly!

In Maths, we linked eco-week by using our data handling skills to present how Year 3 travel to school. We then analysed our data and created questions about it.

We have also looked at the text Eco-Wolf and the Three Bad Pigs. We all want to live like Eco-Wolf as he is eco-friendly and respects the environment.

Our eco monitors, Oliver and Olivia, have been doing a super job of making sure that all classroom lights and computers are switched off when we aren’t using them! Another one of their jobs is to take out our recycling. Thank you Olivia and Oliver!

I hope you all have a lovely half term.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 11/03/2015

What a busy week Year 3 have had! We started our week off with a letter from an alien! He had no idea what a school was or even what a classroom was so we decided to write him a letter explaining all that he needed to know! We have also been enrolled in to Monsters University this week and we have been persuading others to come and be super scarers! We have created persuasive posters and written persuasive speeches thinking carefully about the vocabulary needed to persuade others.

In Maths, we have been working on the tricky skill that is division! We have been learning to divide using manipulatives (cubes to help with the visual picture), chunking along a number line and chunking formally. I am pleased to say that lots of children grasped this skill very well and they even asked if we could do more!

In Topic, the children debating whether Liverpool was the best City. The children who were on the ‘against’ side struggled to think of arguments because they all love Liverpool so much! All of the children spoke clearly and showed great respect when their peers were speaking! We also had a lesson exploring the music of The Beatles and we ordered the dates that the songs were released on a timeline then gave our opinions on them. We all loved Hey Jude!

A letter has been sent home asking for any plastic bottle top lids. Please bring them in to class if you have any for our Art project! The children are also making instruments in Science on the first week back so bring in any items that they can make instruments with!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

A Message from Mrs Holcroft

On Thursday our new school gate arrived which means that the electrics will soon be activated. The gates will be controlled by the office as an extra security measure. Keeping our children safe at all times is so important to us at Grange Valley.

The gates will be locked to cars from 8:40 until 3:40, access within those times will be limited. Staff will have access fobs and visitors will need to speak to the office via the intercom that will be situated by the entrance.

The gates for pedestrians will also be locked and access to school will be limited with permission needed via the office through the new intercom.

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Holcroft or the office staff.

WB 5/5/2015

We’ve had another great (speedy!) week in Year 3! This week explored our problem solving and reasoning skills further. We posed questions and tried to find as many possibilities as possible. Test your children by questioning their methods and asking them to explain how they got to a certain answer. This will help them practise those important reasoning skills.

In English, we created a set of instructions telling us how to capture the Incredible Hulk! Lots of these were very amusing and everyone was keen to use ambitious vocabulary in their instructions. We also finished our Poetry Unit by writing an acrostic poem about Liverpool which allowed us to show off all that we have learnt so far in our Liverpool topic.

Ryan’s Dad, Mr Adderley, came in to visit us today and talk about Liverpool. We found out so much great information from him and we were really interested in his cool job which promotes the city of Liverpool! Thank you Mr Adderley!

We conducted a fair test experiment in Science exploring pitch in our ‘Sound’ unit. We filled bottles with different amounts of water and blew in to them to test their pitch. We all made our own predictions and lots of us were right! The less water in the bottle, the lower the pitch.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 27/04/2015

We’ve had another great week in Year 3! This week we have learned the grid method for multiplication. This allowed us to work out calculations such as 3 x 27! We were all so pleased when we realised how simple it was! The children are now working on their 8 times tables. I have asked them to practise these for homework.

In English, we have continued our work on poetry. We have explored both rhyming couplets and free verse poetry. We have written some beautiful, funny poems and read them aloud.

In Computing this week, we have been working on our ‘we are presenters’ unit. We used the camera equipment and learned some top tips for filming, such as do not zoom in and out too much! We also had a super Topic lesson where we learned even more facts about Liverpool. Ask us anything! We are now fountains of knowledge!

Today we did our sponsored dance event. It was a lovely way to start our Friday morning! If you have been sponsored, please bring your money in next week. All money will go towards resources for our new library.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend! See you on Tuesday!

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 20/04/2015

We’ve had a lovely, sunny week in Year 3!

Our Monday morning started with a visit to our new library! It is amazing and we can’t wait to spend more time in there! We are so lucky to have a special place to celebrate reading. We also love our new entrance and offices!

We started our Poetry unit this week. Our focus was to perform poems and read them aloud. We devised a success criteria which ensured that we performed our poems to the best of our ability and our audiences enjoyed them. On Wednesday, we added body percussion and instruments to our performances. It was important to think about the rhythm of the poems and make sure that our chosen instruments complemented those rhythms. The children have also created a poem using the structure of Jackie Kay’s ‘No Word of a Lie’ as a starting point. These were fantastic! Next week, we will explore the writing of poetry further.

In Maths this week we have been thinking about our mental strategies. We have been thinking of easier methods to add and subtract 1 digit numbers to and from 3 digit numbers. This required us to use our number fact skills. For example, 243 – 7 = 243 – 3 – 4 = 236. Next week, we will be exploring the inverse operation.

We started our new Topic this week ‘How Cool is Liverpool?’ We located both Liverpool and St Helens on a map and used google maps to discover what is around the two locations. We then compared them.

In P.E, we started our basketball unit and worked on dribbling accurately. We gave each other tips and pointers on our dribbling technique and are looking forward to using some defence skills next week.

In Science, we started our new topic ‘Sound.’ We went on a sound hunt around school and listened to the sounds around us. We then used technical vocabulary to describe them.

A huge thank you to the children who brought their Liverpool projects in this week! They were fantastic and they are now up on display! I can see that you have all learned lots and are looking forward to learning more throughout the topic!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

The PTFA Sponsored Dance event is next Friday  1st May. All money raised for this will go towards our new library.

Important – please make sure that you read with your child over the holidays, this can be either their choice book or their individual books. Our Liverpool project homework is due in on Wednesday 22nd April. After our efforts for the Spain project after Christmas, I am so looking forward to seeing these!

WB 30/03/2015

We have had a lovely final week in Year 3!

This week we have learned all about the story of Easter. We started our week with an assembly by Year 5 and Year 6 teaching us all about the importance of Easter. We also went to Christ Church this week. We learned all about why we celebrate Easter and about the life of Jesus. We talked about how lucky we are that Jesus gave his life up for us. There are lots of pictures of our fantastic morning below.

We had the egg decorating competition this week! There were lots of amazing eggs so thank you for all of your efforts! There are pictures of Y3’s eggs below so take a look. I’m sure you’ll agree that they are fantastic!

We had our Dance morning this morning. Our parents and carers came to watch our dances that we have been working on. They were brilliant! Well done Year 3 Dancers!

The children are doing a Sponsored Dance on Friday 1st May and all money raised will go towards our new library! Sponsor forms were sent home earlier this week. Feel free to ask for another if you have misplaced it.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter break!  I am looking forward to starting the summer term with our fantastic Year 3 class!

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 23/03/2015

Morning dance club members have been asked to go to dance on Wednesday morning and Thursday morning this week. Parents are invited to come and watch the children's performances on Thursday morning.

What a great week in Year 3!

We have continued our Harry Potter non-fiction unit. This week, we researched using the laptops and created a non-fiction information poster all about the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London. We found out lots of important information that visitors will need to know and then thought carefully about our layout.

In Maths, we have continued to work on time. We have calculated time intervals and worked on telling the time to the nearest minute. This has been a tricky unit and the more work you can do with your child at home, the better! By the end of Year 3, all children should be able to tell the time to the nearest minute on an analogue clock.

In Science this week, we celebrated National Science Week by planning and doing an experiment testing which materials are conductors and insulators. We made predictions and then conducted our experiment. We had great fun testing different materials around the classroom and seeing if they would allow our bulb to light up.

In Art this week, we concluded our landscapes unit by drawing our own landscape pictures using oil pastels. These are now on display in our classroom and have really brightened up our wall. They are beautiful!

In Topic, we researched football in England in the 20th Century. We focussed on the 1960s when England won the World Cup in 1966. We then created presentations and presented our findings to the class. We are really looking forward to our 1950s tea party next week!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

Easter Egg Raffle Tickets

Tickets will be on sale in school at break time for the Easter Egg Raffle that will be drawn at our Easter Bingo on the Thursdays 26th March  organised by our PTFA. There are lots of scrummy Easter eggs available to win.  Tickets are 20p each or £1 for a strip.

Decorate an Egg Competiton

We will be holding our ‘decorate an egg’ competition once again , back by popular demand from the children.

We would like children to use their creative talents by decorating a ‘boiled egg’ and bringing it into school to exhibit it in the hall on Wednesday 1st April.  All eggs

will be judged by Mrs Bailey and Mrs Louden and prizes will be given for the best dressed eggs in each class!

So let’s see what wonderful designs you can come up with this year…

WB 16/03/2015

We have had another brilliant week in Year 3!

In English, we have started our non-fiction reports unit and we have been exploring the world of Harry Potter. We have had lots of fun researching the films and making questions for each other from the information that we have collected. Next week, we will explore the features of a non-fiction report in more detail and will build up to write our own non-fictions reports about Harry Potter.

In Maths, we have been exploring time. Again, time is a tricky unit of work as it is a skill that is quite hard to grasp. We have been learning to tell the time on an analogue clock to the nearest minute and timed each other doing activities in seconds and minutes, such as making a tower with bricks and comparing our time with others.

In Topic this week we explored what holidays were like in England in the 20th Century, particularly Butlins. We did a holiday hunt and looked at activity timetables from Butlins in the 1950s. We then planned our own day in Butlins.

Today we have been to Haydock High School for a health day. We took part in lots of activities including multi-skills, iPads and fruit kebabs. There are lots of pictures of our day below!

It was lovely to see you all at Parents Evening. Don’t forget, the door is always open if ever you need anything from myself or any other staff members.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly & the Year 3 Team

WB 09/03/2015

Reminders – Parents Evening times were given out and were sent home on Thursday. I am looking forward to seeing parents throughout next week.

Dance class is now on Thursday mornings

We are going to Haydock High School on Friday for a health day. Please come to school in PE kit/tracksuits.

We have had another fantastic week in Year 3!

In Maths we have been working on subtracting using a number line. We have also used and applied this skill in word problems and investigations. We have had great success with this skill and I am really pleased with the progress that the children have made. Next week we will be doing time so if you can help your child by encouraging them to read the time and use a watch that would be brilliant!

In English, we have completed our play script unit. The children ended the week by writing two scenes of their own play. They came up with the characters, the setting and the dialogue and they had to remember all of the important features in a play script. They did a fantastic job!

In Topic, we started our unit on leisure and entertainment in the 20the Century. The children played lots of playground games such as hopscotch, marbles and hoops. They had lots of fun and compared the games that they play after school to the games they played outside. The children loved making comparisons and reminiscing about the games they played when they were younger too!

In Science, children made simple circuits and tested them to light a bulb. We then drew our circuits and labelled them. We also learned that a battery is called a ‘cell.’

This week was Red Nose Day. Thank you for dressing up and bringing your donation! Our assembly today reminded us what a worthwhile cause Comic Relief is and it is important to remember where our money will be going.

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 02/03/2015

The book fair will be in school next week. It is in the hall every night until around 4pm. You are welcome to come along.

Red Nose Day is next Friday. The school will be dressing up 'funny for money.' Please don't go to any expense for this. The children can do whatever they like - crazy hair, face paint, anything!

Dance Club will move from Tuesday to Thursday mornings. This will commence from Monday 16th March.

This week we had World Book Day! The children came to school looking amazing today in their costumes! We had a fantastic day exploring books and we started our new class novel 'The Grunts in Trouble' by Philip Ardagh.

In English, we have been exploring play scripts. By the end of the week the children changed a chapter from The Twits in to a scene for a stage show of The Twits. The children are able to identify features of a play script and write one with the correct layout. We will continue our work on play scripts next week and by the end of the week, we will have written 3 scenes of our own play.

In Maths, the children have been reinforcing their place value skills. This is a key basic skill  that is tricky to master but increases fluency in Maths which is essential in order for the children to progress.

In Science, we started our new topic Electricity and in Topic we started our new topic asking the question 'what would I have done after school 100 years ago?'

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

World Book Day is Thursday 5th March. Children are invited to come to school on FRIDAY 6th MARCH dressed as a character from any book.

WB 23/02/2015

What a fantastic week we have had! It has been ‘Around The World’ week this week throughout the whole school. In Year 3, we have explored the country Greece. How fabulous did our Greek costumes look today?!

In Maths, we began our week using column addition to add money. We used our column addition skills to buy items to make a Greek costume. We have also explored the flags of the world looking at symmetry, vertical, parallel, perpendicular, horizontal and vertical lines. This was great fun as we were able to use our geometry skills and our geography skills.

In English, we have explored Greek theatre and we learnt about the amphitheatre and the masks used in traditional Greek theatre. We also explored the character of Hercules and worked on our paragraphing skills whilst talking about his character.

We had a fun Geography lesson where we located different places on the map. We looked at Disney films and guessed where we thought the film was set. Then we found out where the film was set, for example, Mulan was set in China, and then located China on the map.

On Wednesday, we had a ‘fly and dine’ afternoon where we tasted different foods which originated in Greece. We tasted olives, pitta bread, hummus, Greek yogurt and feta cheese. There were mixed reactions to these foods! The children were then lucky enough to fly over to India (year 4) and taste their foods. They were very spicy but most of the children enjoyed Indian food more than Greek.

We designed Greek vases which represented our lives. We planned and drew our designs and then we used colours typical of the ancient Greek vases to add colour to our vases. These are going to go on display in our classroom and on our Greek display in the hall.

Today, we went all around the world! Every child visited every classroom and learnt about a different country in each one. The children were able to do art activities in each room and work with the younger and older children in the school. We also held an assembly for the parents to let them know what we have been up to this week.

Thank you for all of your support this week and for making the children look so great.

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

Please read with your child! Each child has an individual book which is pitched at their reading level and a choice book which they have chosen from the book corner. Reading is so important and can benefit writing skills and broaden vocabulary.

Every child was also given their Active Learn and EducationCity username and password last week. These games are set by myself and work alongside the work in class. These have proven to really improve children's basic skills!

I have sent PE kits home with the children. Please make sure that you bring them back on the first Monday back as they will be having a Dance PE lesson with the dance coach Emma.

WB 9/2/2015

Another half term has come to an end!

The children have been so busy doing assessments all week and I’m so proud of their work. For our creative writing, the children wrote from the point of view of a little boat that sailed through many different lands. They had some really creative ideas and I’m so pleased to say that you can really see how much they have progressed over the half term.

We finished our Computing unit by animating our sprites. There are some pictures of our work below.

We are starting a new novel ‘The Grunts in Trouble’ by Philip Ardagh next half term. We discussed our predictions for the story today and the children are really looking forward to reading the book together and exploring an author we haven’t yet learnt about. The illustrations are by Axel Scheffler and we have explored his illustrations in our Art and Design unit this half term so we are excited about seeing his work in another story!

Please take a look at our term overview to see what topics we will be exploring next half term.

I hope you have a fantastic week off and I’m looking forward to seeing the children refreshed and ready for some more hard work on the 23rd!

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team.

WB 2/2/2015

The highlight of our week was definitely our trip to Quarry Bank Mill. We had such a wonderful day. First, we were taken to the apprentice house. Here, we were taught in the classroom. We then went up into the bedrooms where the apprentices slept. We learnt how to make a bed and learnt how the apprentices had to use the toilet in the night! We were not impressed with that part! Mums and Dads take note as the children were all fantastic at making the beds so they can do it as their morning routine now! We then went in to the medical room where the children were treated by a doctor. There were some strange ways to treat a person if they were ill such as getting leeches to suck their blood if they had a cough! We then went in to the kitchen were we were given a handful of porridge to show us how the apprentices ate their breakfast.

After that, we had lunch and then did a tour of the mill. The machines were fascinating and we learnt all about how water powers the mill, the cotton mules and how children’s jobs were to run under the machines. The children loved comparing our lives today to a Victorian child’s and after much deliberation; we decided that we would prefer to live in the 21st Century!

It was a brilliant day and the children gained so much from it so I would like to say a big thank you to parents and carers for being supportive and for buying costumes for the children. It really made the day special and it made us feel like we were real apprentice house workers! There are lots of pictures below for you to look at.

In Maths this week we have explored data handling. We have collected our own data and create bar charts from this data. We answered questions and analysed this data, posing questions ourselves.

In English we have been focussing on Explanation Texts and looking at the features of these. Next week will be assessment week and the children are really looking forward to a creative writing task (they cheer when I tell them we are doing creative writing! Who’d have thought it?!).

In Science we did an experiment ‘which other materials change when heated or cooled?’ We used lots of different materials to find this out but our favourites were definitely the marshmallows and the jelly babies. We didn’t think these would change much when they were heated but they definitely did! There are pictures of our results below.

In our Computing Curriculum the children created their own ‘sprite’ and background on Scratch.. The children were so creative and quickly adapted to using the Scratch programme.

I hope you have a lovely, relaxed weekend.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team.

Our Spelling Test & Times Tables Challenge will be on Monday as we were out on the trip today!

Important – We are going to Quarry Bank Mill next Friday. Letters and money were due in today however we are still missing a few. Please let a member of staff know if you need another letter or have any problems.

WB 25/01/2015

We have had another brilliant (and snowy) week in Year 3!

We had a Science experiment where we explored the properties of water. We now know that water can be a solid, liquid and a gas. We melted ice cubes in our hands to change the state of the water.

In English we did some up-levelling work where the children used a point system. The more they up-levelled their work in a variety of ways, the more points they got! I have never seen up-levelling being done with such precision and maturity in a Year 3 class. I was so proud of their work!

In Maths we finished our topic of fractions. The children solved word problems independently and ordered them on a 0-1 line. We also added fractions with the same denominator. We will be moving on to data handling next week.

In Art & Design, we drew ourselves in the style of the illustrator Quentin Blake. The children really enjoyed this and produced some fantastic sketches.

The children’s behaviour has been brilliant this week and I’m really proud of their work ethic in class. Well done Year 3!

Have a lovely weekend.

WB 19/01/2015

What a great week Year 3 has had!

We have continued our work on fractions and we have been learning about how many fractions make a whole and investigating which numbers can be split in to 1/3s and 1/4s. The fractions quote of the week was definitely ‘I never knew fractions were so fun!’ If you have any fraction problems, be sure to come to Year 3 as they definitely know their stuff!

In English we have written letters to the author Francesca Simons and we are going to post the letters to her! We really hope we get a response as we are really enjoying her books and we have lots of questions that we would love to hear the answers to!

In Science this week we used a thermometer to measure temperatures of different things.

These are some responses to our Science lesson this week:

‘I have learned that mercury is inside a thermometer.’

‘I have learned that you can measure temperature in Degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit.’

‘I have learned that the puddles outside are really cold!’

It was a fun, practical lesson and you can see some children using the thermometers in the pictures below.

We had a fantastic Art and Design lesson this week in which we discussed children’s illustrators and then explored some of their best work. You can see some of the children’s drawings below. I have to say that some of their drawings are fantastic and I’m sure you’ll agree! I am so looking forward to seeing their sketches in the upcoming weeks.

Have a lovely weekend.

WB 12/01/2015

We have had a very busy, exciting Money Week! We have been lucky enough to have lots of visitors coming to talk to us. Some of these visitors were RBS, a Radiograper (Mrs Larner's daughter, Victoria!), the RAF and the Fire Service. We also had a visitor from Zoe's Place where we learned all about the charity and how they look after poorly babies and children.

We created our money boxes which were a huge success at the market sale so thank you very much for coming to support us and buying those! All proceeds will go to our chosen charity. Another way that we fundraised this week was by bringing in a handful of pennies to create a penny trail. Thank you for all your support and for 'digging deep.' We had lots of fun creating the penny trail in the hall!

In English, we created news reports on the iPpads which told the story of a school who raised money for charity by running a car wash. We then wrote newspaper reports about the story and we found that because we retold the story on the iPads first, we were much more confident when we wrote it! We also created posters to advertise our money box sale. We explored the features of persuasive language and included some of them in our poster to make sure that they grabbed people's attention! The children also completed some fantastic creative writing all about what they want to be when they grow up. The class have some fantastic ambitions and I know if they work hard, they can achieve anything that they want to!

In Maths, we have explored money in many different ways, including role play, problem solving and exploring different possibilities with coins.

Please take a look at our photos below. I'm sure you can see that we have had a fantastic week and learned lots about money, its value and giving to others.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 05/01/2015

What an exciting first week back we’ve had! We started this week by watching ‘Cinderella’, a fantastic pantomime which we all really enjoyed.

In English, we have started to explore Francesca Simon’s work. We read her book Mr P’s Naughty Book and created some role plays to predict the ending of the book. The loved this book as it was really funny! We have also read a Horrid Henry story and we explored the features of Francesca Simon’s books. Today, the children wrote some fantastic creative writing entitled ‘We Woke Up in a Different World!’ The children loved creating their own worlds and they produced some fantastic writing which they were really proud of. It was so good the writing is now on display in our classroom! Well done children!

In Maths, we have looked at fractions and we have explored fractions of shapes and of numbers. The children really enjoyed their Maths this week as it was very practical and we were amazed to see how we can work out fractions using apparatus ourselves.

I would like to say thank you to all the parents and the children for their fantastic Spain projects. I am so impressed with all of the hard work that went in to them. They are amazing! They are now on display in our classroom by our topic board. We are looking forward to learning about Spain and the projects definitely sparked an interest for the children.

Next week is Money Money Money week. We will be exploring the importance of money and most of our work will be based around it! We are going to create our own money boxes and then sell them for a profit, write about what we want to be when we are older and explore money in Maths. We also have lots of visitors coming to tell us all about how they make money. It looks like it will be a great week!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team.

WB 15/12/2015

Our first term is over! I can’t believe it! This term has flown by! The children have been doing lots of fun activities this week such as making Christmas cards and calendars which I’m sure you have seen at home. We also created a festive fruity cocktail and then wrote instructions to tell others how to do it! We were lucky enough to get to explore the iPads this week and the children had lots of fun playing on the apps and creating a picture collage. You can see pictures of their collages below! We are really looking forward to working with the iPads in lessons next term.

We also went to Christ Church this week and we learned about the special story of Christmas. The people at Christ Church were really welcoming and the children loved their morning there.

We had a sad day today as we said goodbye to Mrs Gabbitas! L Year 3 will miss you lots! Good luck for the future and we hope to see you again soon!

Myself and the Year 3 team would like to thank you all for your lovely gifts! It is so kind of you to think of us so thank you very much! We really appreciate it and are so lucky to have such supportive and generous parents!

All that’s left for me to say is that I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe and enjoy the rest! See you all in 2015 for even more hard work and fun! I’m excited already!

Miss Kelly & The Year 3 Team

High Frequency Words have been sent home for children to learn over the break. Don't forget about our Spanish geography project too! Due in the first Friday back! Don't forget to read over the holidays and if you read any books for fun, keep them in mind so you can move up our reading rainbow!

WB 08/12/2014

Monday 15th December- KS2 'X Factor' Production- Performances at 2.00pm and 6.00pm.

What a festive week we have all had! We started our week with a brilliant puppet show and a Christmas dinner with our friends. We have also been working very hard practising for the X Factor performances.

The highlight of our week was definitely our trip to Gullivers World! We watched a fantastic pantomime, went on lots of rides and then went on a train ride to Father Christmas' magical grotto and met him! We were even lucky enough to each receive a present from the elves' workshop! Look at our pictures below. I'm sure you can see that the children had a fantastic time! They behaved brilliantly and myself and the staff were so proud of them.

X Factor is on monday- we've love you to come along! There are not many tickets left for the evening performance but there are still quite a few for the day time! Next week we are also looking forward to our visit to Christ Church and our Christmas party! Please let me know what food you can bring for our class buffet - we really appreciate it!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Kelly & the Year 3 Team.

WB 01/12/2014

Another week has flown by in Year 3!

In English, we have continued our work on instructional texts and we have looked at the grammar in these texts. We have explored imperative verbs, time words and adverbs. We learned that these words are necessary in instructional texts and we were really good at identifying these and adding them in to sentences.

In Maths, we have continued to explore 3d shapes and we have been sorting these shapes according to their properties. Next week, we will be exploring angles, in particular, right angles.

This week in our topic lesson the children explored the work of L.S Lowry and they created some fantastic work. We have some very talented artists in our class! We have also decorated a tree for the Christ church which you can see on pictures below. Our theme was ‘Mary Joseph and the Donkey’ and the children created a beautiful tree which they will be able to see next week when we visit the church.

In Science, we discussed endangered animals and how they are at risk. The children really enjoyed learning about these animals and were particularly interested in how we can help reduce the risk of animals in danger of extinction.

We have two Beacons for Reading in our class, Jennifer and Connor. Their role is to help anyone with any book related questions. They will recommend books and authors for our class. We have also introduced a reading challenge and our aim is to get to the pot of gold at the end of our Reading Rainbow. We can only get there if we read 10 books for pleasure in a whole term! Let’s see how far people can get before the end of this half term.

Don’t forget, we are going to Gullivers World on Wednesday so please bring a packed lunch for your child in a plastic bag that can be thrown away.

Today we had our lighting of the Christmas tree which I’m sure you’ll all agree was lovely. The children sang beautifully and really enjoyed it. I hope you enjoyed the Christmas fair!

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

WB 24/11/2014

We’ve had another fantastic week in Year 3!

In English, we’ve started our first week on ‘Instructions.’ We have been exploring and evaluating the effectiveness of different types of instructions. We also followed instructions to make snowflakes which we are going to display as our Christmas decorations in a few weeks! Next week, we are learning about the grammar needed in different instructions to make them successful, such as adverbs, imperative verbs and time connectives.

In our creative writing lesson, the children pretended they were Bill Simpson from our class novel ‘Bill’s New Frock.’ They wrote about the day that Bill woke up in a girl’s dress and had to go to school! These pieces of writing were fantastic and it’s clear that the children love this novel and are really enjoying reading it as a class.

In Maths, we have been learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We have also been creating 2D shape pictures and 3D shapes with polydron. The children were able to describe the properties of 2D shapes and find out the properties of 3D shapes through exploration of the shapes they had created. Next week, we will be sorting shapes according to different criterion and learning about different types of lines such as horizontal and parallel lines.

In Science, the children sorted organisms. We learned new terms such as amphibian, reptile and mammal. Why not test your children and ask them to tell you what type of organism a certain animal is? In topic the children asked the question ‘what would the X Factor sound like in Victorian times?’ and the children had a very exciting lesson!

Today the children have taken part in the X Factor auditions and we have practised our class performances for the show! I was very proud of the children for getting up in front of Key Stage 2 and showing off their talents as we all know that it’s not easy! The children are already really excited about performing for you!

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

Reminders – Next week is our Christmas Tree Lighting at 2pm and the Christmas Fayre is at 3.30- 5pm. We would love to see you there to start the festive season off.

WB 17/11/2014

What a busy week we have had in year 3!

In English, we have now completed our Myths and Legends unit and we finished the unit by writing our very own Greek myths. The children thoroughly enjoyed this unit and through creating their own heroes, mythical beasts and settings, the children wrote some amazing myths. I am so pleased with their engagement within this unit and it goes to show that if you enjoy what you are learning, you really do succeed!

In Maths, our multiplication and division unit has come to an end. The children have been dividing whole numbers and also completing division calculations with remainders! We used arrays and mental methods and next time we will move on to more formal written methods of multiplication and division. The children have also used and applied their knowledge in real life contexts and word problems- this is a really tricky skill so we are still working on this! Next week we are moving on to 2d and 3d shapes and their properties! Although we have completed our multiplication and division unit, it is so important that the children keep practising these skills at home. By the end of Year 3, all children are expected to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables!

This week is anti-bullying week and we discussed how important it is to not bystand and to lend a hand! The children created posters to promote anti-bullying week and they showed these in assembly today.

We had a very exciting morning on Thursday as we took part in the Junior Chef workshop. The children learned lots about fair trade foods and how to make healthier choices. The children were so respectful in this workshop and I was really proud of their behaviour. They made their very own tiramisu which I hope you all tried at home and really enjoyed!

Some of the boys in the class took part in a football competition against other schools this week and they did really well! Although they did not win, they showed excelled sportsmanship and best of all, they had fun! Well done boys you did brilliantly!

Thank you to all the parents who attended parents evening. It was lovely to meet with you all and celebrate your child’s success. I’m sure you’ll all agree they are doing so brilliantly and I could see that you are very proud of them. We are too!

Have a lovely weekend!

WB 10/11/2011

Important – Parents Evenings are being held next week. Your child will have received a slip with your assigned time on it yesterday. If you have not received one, please do not hesitate to ask one of the teachers.

This week we have been continuing our work on Myths and Legends. We have created our own heroes and we have created some dangerous locations for our stories to take place in. Next week, we will use this work to help us write our own Greek Quest myths. The children are really enjoying this unit of work and they are having lots of fun being creative in their writing.

In Maths we have been dividing using grouping and arrays. We have also learnt about the inverse operation and we have been referring to this lots throughout the week. The children now know how to prove their answers correct and check their calculations through doing the inverse operation. I am so pleased that most of the children also now know their 3 x tables and we are moving on to learning out fours! There are lots of times tables songs on YouTube that we have looked at in class and are available for you to look at with your child at home.

In PE the children loved performing their movement phrases again. We added travelling movements to our sequences and we were also able to link this to English as we knew that we were using verbs to describe the actions that we were doing such as ‘creep’, ‘stomp’ and ‘dawdle.’

Today was really exciting as we came to school in our pyjamas! We have discussed why we are in pyjamas and where the money we have donated will go. The children are very proud that they have been able to donate money to a cause that will help other children.

We also did an art project this week titled ‘All About Me.’ The children designed a bubble and drew pictures that represented them. These are now on display in our classroom. The picture of our display is below!

Have a lovely weekend

WB 03/11/2014

Welcome back!

We’ve started off this half term brilliantly with some fantastic work across all areas!

In Maths, we have started our new unit of Multiplication and Division. The children have been learning do double and halve numbers up to 100 using partitioning. Test your children on this and they will impress you with their fantastic doubling and halving skills! Next week we will be moving on to multiplication and division strategies.

In English, we have started our new unit of Myths and Legends. Already, we have learnt so much about Myths and Legends as we have explored Theseus and the Minotaur, Pandora’s Box, Thor and the story of Medusa. We highlighted the features of a Myth and this task was really important because at the end of this unit, we are going to write our own Myth! To end our week in English, we created our own mythical characters. In this task, we let our imaginations run wild and came up with some amazing creatures.

In our Topic lesson, we learnt about a place called Quarry Bank Mill which is in Cheshire and we started to explore the owner of the mill who was Samuel Greg. The children really enjoyed this task and they imagined what it would be like if they lived and worked as an apprentice at the mill.

We have started a new Science topic which poses the question ‘Which wild plants and animals thrive in your locality?’ We started off our Science lessons by going outside on a plant hunt to see which flowers and plants grew naturally and which were planted in our surrounding areas. Next week we will be exploring the animals in our environment and the children are really looking forward to this already!

We also had football training this week with the Everton coaches and we started our new topic of Dance in P.E. The children were fantastic at creating their own sequences of movements and giving feedback on each other’s performances.

Well done everyone on a fantastic first week back.

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

Reminders - A letter has been sent home about Parents Evening appointments. Please return this as soon as possible.

WB 19/10/2014

We made it! What a fantastic first half term we have had!

This week has been filled with assessments and I’m so pleased to say that the children’s progress is fantastic! I’m most pleased with the amazing writing that the children have produced this week! We continued a story about a man who went on a ride on a giant turtle and then we described some spooky settings! Next term, our English Topic is Myths and Legends. We are really looking forward to this and although the children didn’t know much about this topic in our pre-learning challenge, everyone said they would love to find out about it!

We had a great using and applying lesson this week where the children really had to use their problem solving and reasoning skills. Reasoning in mathematics is something that we are going to focus on next term so it was good to make a head start this week!

We had our school Halloween disco this week and two of the fancy dress costume winners were in our class! Well done Lily-Leigh and Ryan! Your costumes were fantastic!

So many children have achieved lots of their personal writing targets, so as a treat, we had a spooky afternoon making marshmallow monsters and biscuit spiders! We had lots of fun getting messy and being creative. We also loved all the yummy treats!

There are pictures of the Halloween disco, the spooky afternoon and some pictures of us in our creative writing lesson below!

I hope everyone has a lovely half term and a rest. We will need it in preparation for the next half term!

Miss Kelly and The Year 3 Team

Important!

Every child should be read with each night. When you have read with your child, write this in the yellow book. Once a child has finished their individual reading book, they are to put it in the finished book box and it will be swapped for them. We can only swap children's books when the yellow book has been signed to say that the child has finished the book with an adult.

Homework: Homework is compulsory and should be handed in on the Wednesday after it is given out on the Friday. Spellings should also be practised throughout the week in preperation for the weekly spelling test on a Friday.

WB 13/10/2014

We've had another very busy week in Year 3!

Firstly, we'd like to say a big thank you to all of our families and friends who came to watch our Harvest Assembly. I'm sure you'll agree that the children were fantastic and we are very proud of them! Everyone had loud, clear speaking voices and sang beautifully. Thank you also for your kind harvest donations. These are being taken to the food bank next week!

In Maths this week we have been learning about time. We have been learning to tell the time at o clock, quarter past, quarter to and half past and even 5 minute intervals. We have also been learning to apply our knowledge in word problems. Many children came to school wearing watches to help them to tell the time and this proved to be really helpful! This is a great topic for you to help your child with at home. Even asking what time it is at different points in the day can really help!

In English, we finished our recounts topic by writing a diary entry from an animal of our choice. The children were really creative with this and everyone's writing is definitely improving as the weeks go on. I am so proud of the progress that the children have made so far!

We also two sessions with the PE coaches this week: Dance with Emma and Football with the Everton Coaches. The children really enjoyed these sessions and we are continuing to do the Everton sessions with the coaches next term.

I can't believe that next week will be our final week of the half term! We have a busy week of assessments coming up and I know we will all do brilliantly in them!

Have a nice weekend!

Miss Kelly and The Year 3 Team

WB 06/10/2014

What a brilliant week Year 3 have had!

We have spent a lot of time with Year 4 this week practising our Harvest Assembly and it’s looking very good! The teachers are really proud of their hard work so far as we have had a lot of practises and trying to be patient and quiet in a room full of 60 children isn’t easy so well done everyone! The children have been working hard to remember their parts and learn their lines so keep it up!

It was lovely to see so many parents and family members at our Fit3Life Celebration assembly on Tuesday. I’m sure you will agree that the children have learned about keeping healthy over the past 4 weeks and the assembly really showcased the children’s fantastic work. The children were thrilled that you came to watch. Thank you for your support!

In English we have continued with our topic of ‘Recounts and we have explored the features of a diary next week in preparation to write our own next week. The children have also been given a homework task to write a diary of their weekend or a day in school so I am looking forward to reading those.

We also went on an Autumn walk this week (we managed to miss the rain!) and we then wrote poems about the sights that we saw. We saw two beautiful horses that were very friendly! These poems will be up on display next to our classroom and a few will be read out in our Harvest Assembly.

In Maths, we have finished our work on Place Value and we are now moving on to ‘Time.’ Time is a really tricky topic as it is more of a life skill than a mathematical skill so if you can test your children and ask them to tell you the time at home that would be great practise for them!

The children also had a French lesson this week and learnt the names of different colours in French. Ask your child about this and I’m sure they could teach you a bit of French!

The pictures of our Autumn walk and our Fit4Life presentation are below.

Important: Please continue to bring in your Harvest Donations for the Food Bank. Thank you to those who have already brought theirs in.

Our Harvest Assembly is 2.30pm on Wednesday 15th October. We would love to see you there!

Please continue to read with your child at home and if your child has lines for the Harvest Assembly, please practise these.

WB 29/09/2014

Wow! What a busy week we have had in Year 3!

In English, we have been learning about our new topic ‘Recounts.’ We have read a great book called ‘The Day I swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish’ by McKean and Gaiman. This book is written as a recount and we all found the story very funny! Today we predicted what might happen next in the story and we showed our predictions through role play. Some pictures are below! We will continue to explore recounts and the features of recounts over the next few weeks.

In Maths, we are learning about Place Value. We have been thinking about what numbers actually stand for and we have discussed how important this is together. We have ordered numbers up to and beyond 1000 and we have been rounding 2 and 3 digit numbers to the nearest 10.

In Topic, we drew portraits of Queen Victoria and the children’s artwork is fantastic! I am so impressed with how creative the children are! We have also learnt about the potato famine and how this affected people’s lives in the Victorian times and discussed why people then moved to Liverpool. Liverpool was an extremely exciting place in the Victorian Era as there were trains, cinemas and trams which were very rare at that time!

We also had a very fun Fit4Life session where we made a healthy sandwich. We thought about all of the food groups that we need in our diet and we tried to include each of these in our sandwich! The children loved this session and we learnt a lot and got to eat our yummy sandwiches at the end! Pictures are below!

Next week, the children will be presenting their work to family members so you are all invited to come and watch the children show you what they have been learning in their Fit4Life sessions. This is at 3pm on Tuesday 7th October in the hall. It would be lovely to see you all and support our children.

Our Harvest Assembly is on Wednesday 15th October at 2.30pm. The Year 3 and Year 4 children have prepared this assembly and parents/carers are invited to come and watch. It would be lovely to see you there!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team.

 WB 22/09/2014

Hello everyone!

We’ve had another very busy week in Year 3! Today, we have had an art day celebrating the books that we love and our artwork will be going on display in the hall! Photos to follow!

In English, we have now finished our Fairy Story unit and we brought our unit to a close by writing our very own fairy tale with a twist. The children’s writing is brilliant this week and I am very impressed with their use of adjectives, adverbs and powerful verbs.

In Maths, we have also finished our addition and subtraction unit. Although these are our basic maths skills, we have focussed on them for the past few weeks, especially column addition. We worked up to doing column addition carrying over the units and the children were fantastic at this!

In Topic, we looked at Queen Victoria and we each created a fact file about Queen Victoria. We will continue to look at the life of Queen Victoria and particularly the Victorians in Liverpool throughout the next few weeks.

We have also been preparing for our Harvest Assembly that we are leading with Year 4 and we have started to practise our songs which is very exciting!

Our Incredible Work wall has been filled up again with more fabulous work and this week Max, Jack, Oliver, Hannah, Callum M, Olivia D, Lacey, Millie and Jude’s work is up on display! Well done to those children! You can see their work below.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Miss Kelly and the Year 3 Team

IMPORTANT!

Please make sure that your children bring their individual reading books in every day and are reading with an adult every night.

Please can you return the consent forms that were in the parents pack to let us know whether your child’s photographs can be on the website.

Homework is compulsory and goes out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday. If there are any problems, feel free to come and speak to one of the Y3 team.

WB 15/09/2014

Hello everyone!

We have had a fantastic week in school this week.

In Maths, we have been looking at different formal methods for addition and we have all looked at the column method. The children loved this method and    they even asked could they do more maths!

In English, we have continued to look at Fairy Tales and we have been comparing the characters in 'Shrek' to the more traditional fairy tale characters.        The children really enjoyed this and their descriptions of the characters were brilliant. Again, lots of children are very close to achieving their writing    targets and seeing them progress already  is fantastic!

In Topic, the children used the laptops to research their own facts about The Victorians and they found some fantastic facts. For example, did you know      that to cure the common cold, Victorian children were told to swallow a spider in butter? The children found many facts similar to this and they had lots          of fun.

This week, we had our first Fit4Life session with the Health Improvement Team. The children looked at their own diets and we learned about a healthy         and balanced plate of food. We learned lots of new words such as 'protein, carbohydrates and calcium.'  We also did some sports activities and we talked   about how important it is to get our heart rate up and exercise regularly.

We'd like to remind everyone that for break time, children are only allowed to bring fruit or a breakfast bar for their snack. They are also allowed to         bring money for toast :)

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Hello everyone!

We have had a great first full week in school and we have been very busy!

In Maths, we have been looking at formal methods for addition and I’ve found out that we have some very clever mathematicians in our class! We have   been adding numbers together using our heads, fingers, counting on and partitioning. Next, we will move on to column addition!

In English, we have started our first topic of ‘Fairy Stories’ and we have been writing some descriptions of different fairy tale settings and I’m very impressed with the quality of the writing this week! Lots of children are really working towards their writing targets and are rapidly improving already!

We have started our topic of ‘The Victorians’ and we have been looking at the toys that Victorian children would have played with. We then made an advertisement poster for these toys. We also placed The Victorian Era on our class timeline.

We had a fun lesson on ESafety and we discussed all of the important rules to stay SMART online. We created some videos with our ‘top tips for being   safe on the internet’ but unfortunately the files are too big for us to show you on here!

We have also had cricket with our coach Chris and the class really enjoyed this and I was very proud of their fantastic behaviour.

I’d like to see a huge well done to all of the children who made it on to our INCREDIBLE work wall this week! These children were: Lily-Leigh, Callum S, Connor, Olivia, Grace and Taylor. View their incredible work below!

We have a very busy week lined up next week and I am very much looking forward to meeting everybody’s parents/guardians at the ‘Year Ahead’        meeting on Wednesday.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Miss Kelly and The Year 3 Team

WB 03/09/2014

Hello everyone! Welcome to our Year 3 page. After a very exciting three days, we are very well settled in to our wonderful new classroom and we are getting to know each other more. It is very exciting as we have a brand new classroom, a whole new teaching team and the class are now in the juniors!

In Maths, we have been playing fun games such as bingo and doing code breakers. In English, we have written a recount about our summer holidays and      we have also spent today thinking about our new school buildings and how we can make our school a better place. Most importantly, we have spent this    week getting to know each other and having fun! We created some brilliant self-portraits and also made our class charter which states the rules that        we must stick to, to make sure that we are happy and safe around school.

It looks like Year 3 are going to be a fantastic class in the juniors and we are all really looking forward to getting to know everybody more and having         an enjoyable, successful year.

Have a nice weekend everyone (and a rest!).

Miss Kelly and the Y3 Team.

p.s. If you haven’t already done so, please bring your PE kits in so we can start our PE sessions next week.
