W/B 18th July 2016

I cannot believe that this school year is over. We have absolutely loved every single minute of it, and we have been so lucky to have such an amazing class. Throughout the year each of them has made us smile, cry with laughter and feel so unbelievably proud of their achievements. Thank you all for your generous gifts and cards this week, we appreciate it so much. Have a lovely summer break, and I can't wait to see how grown up all of the children look as the go into year 1.

Thank you all for an amazing year!

As this is the last full week of school, we decided to change our awards, to awards of the year, for children who consistently work hard, throughout the whole year.

Well Done to the Star of the Year Ruby for outstanding development throughout Reception. Ruby joined our class, coming from a different nursery, and she settled in as though she'd known all of the children previously. Ruby has excelled in her reading, writing and maths this year, and continues to WOW us with her abilities. Ruby is also a brilliant friend to everyone in the class, and always uses her manners. Well done Ruby, keep it up in Year 1

This week, we made our own ice cream cones in the creative area, using tissue paper and pom poms. Some of them looked good enough to eat!

We were lucky enough to watch Year 4 in their brass band performance, and Year 6 in their end of year production of Queen! The children really enjoyed getting to watch their older brothers and sisters, they were so proud of them.

Reception have really enjoyed using the ipad's lately to take selfies and add different effects to the images. We thought that we would embrace their funny sides and take silly pictures of each other. There are some funny faces!

A big well done to Ellena this week, as she chose to cut her hair short, and donate all 7 inches of it to charity.

What a lovely thing to do.

We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the seaside this week in Reception. The children have discussed their holidays and family days out the to seaside. We used our sense and imaginations to write a Seaside Poem, which were fantastic. We have children very excited about their up coming holidays to Wales and Spain.

Zilan and her sister Zevin taught Reception all about the celebration of Eid. Muslims celebrate Eid at the end of Ramadan, by having lots of lovely treats to eat and spending time with their relatives. The girls taught us all so much, and wanted us to celebrate Eid with them. Zilan brought cakes for Reception to have, and she shown us the traditional way to greet each other at Eid. They children found it very interesting.

On Thursday we had our Summer Disco, the children impressed us with their dance moves. I am sure they slept well on Thursday evening.

On Friday, Mrs Mather was so kind to let us use her candy floss machine! The children were so excited as they watched the sugar transform into candy floss. It was the perfect end to another week in Reception.

This week we spent lots of  time practicing for Sports Day. At the start of the week the weather wasn't being very kind to us, so we had to rearrange our canopy area to have a practice. The children enjoyed running as fast as they could, and also having some silly races too.

We developed our directional language this week, as we used the Bee Bots to and a pirate map to find the treasure. The children needed to think critically about the directions the Bee Bot would need to travel. They were all fantastic, and found the treasure.

Reception took complete control in the creative area this week as they decorated their egg boxes to turn them into treasure chests. We also followed some clues around school and found our very own treasure. As a class, we discussed treasure is something that we value, and that it can be more than gold and jewels, such as; family and friends.

On Tuesday we visited Christ Church, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday. We learnt all about her life from being a little girl, to becoming Queen. We made our own crowns, and we ll transformed into little Prince and Princesses. The children were very well behaved and respectful, we were very proud of them.

In Science this week we have been looking at the similarities and differences between the features of a pirate and a parrot. We discussed how our each part of our body has a different function, and although we are different to animals in lots of ways we are also quite similar. We also designed our own Pirates, working in pairs, choosing different textured materials and discussing how they felt.

Welcome back to the final term of the school year. We hope you all had a lovely break. The children were so excited to come into school and tell us what they have all been up to, it sounds like they have been busy bees.

The children settled in and thoroughly enjoyed extending their imaginative play in our new Pirate Ship role play area, the children have named it Treasure Island. They have had so much fun.

We spent the rest of the week preparing for our garden party on Friday to celebrate Queen Elizabeth`s 90th birthday. The children worked hard to decorate flags and bunting for the party, and came to school smartly dressed for the occasion. The rain held off for just enough time for the whole school to enjoy a picnic outside on the playground. It was so much fun, and there was so much yummy food and cakes for us all to eat. Thank you very much for your kind donations.

Parents joined us later for an assembly to listen to the children perform the songs they have learnt, watch a dance performance, and have a look at all of the wonderful cakes, hats, handbags and scarecrows they children have worked so hard to make. They were all fantastic, lots of hard work has been put into them.

Have a lovely weekend,

This week in Reception and Nursery went to Farmer Teds to round off the end of our 'Living Things' topic. The children had a fantastic day, they were all so well behaved and well mannered. Throughout the day we stroked the guinea pigs, went on a tractor ride, groomed the ponies, used the indoor and outdoor play areas and watched a cow being milked. Thank you to the parent helpers for coming along and enjoying the day with us.

When we returned to school on Tuesday, the children wanted to create their own farm animals using paper plates.

We also went Pond Dipping on Wednesday at Sankey Valley. It was such a fantastic morning, all of the children listened well to the rangers, used the fishing nets and carefully handled the pond creatures. We found, tadpoles, nutes, fish and leeches. I am so proud of how the children all joined in a participated.

On Thursday we had an assembly with Dylan's Reptile Time to celebrate All Around the World Week. The children got to see lots of different reptiles from countries all around the world and learn lots of interesting facts. Some of Reception were brave enough to hold and stroke some of the reptiles!

This week in Reception we have read Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have read the story as a group and acted it out using role play masks. We worked hard to transform ourselves into the characters and use expression, it was lots of fun. We retold the story in our Literacy activity this week, and I was amazed at some of the detail in the children's work.

In Maths we have been working hard to find one more and one less, using objects, number lines and working it out in our heads. The children understand that when finding one more, we jump up the number line to a bigger number, and when we are finding one less, we jump down the number line to a smaller number. We are so please with the progress that the children are making.

We also planted our very own magic beans, just like the ones from Jack and the Beanstalk. However, we didn't plant them in soil, we sprayed pieces of kitchen roll with water, placed it in a plastic cup, and finally wedged the bean in between the wet kitchen roll. We are going to keep them in the sunlight, and watch as they begin to grow roots, and hopefully grow into a giant bean stalk.

Reception have worked hard to create a crown for church as they are celebrating the Queen's birthday with us at our garden party on Friday 10th June. I am sure Her Royal Highness would love the crown Reception have created.

The lovely sunshine this week has meant that the children have had lots of fun learning and playing outdoors. We are lucky to have such a larger outdoor area.

This week the children have really enjoyed learning about different animals and their habitats. We looked at animals that live in the woodlands, desert, ocean, arctic, rivers and swamps. Thank you to all of the parents who brought in extra junk modelling for us to use this week. The children put so much effort into their habitats, to make them look like the real deal. As they were being made, the children were using such impressive language about the different habitats.

On Friday afternoon we enjoyed some lovely games and nursery rhymes outside on the field with nursery. It was lots of fun!

The glorious weather this week has meant lots of fun learning outside for Reception. The children have really enjoyed our plants and flowers theme this week. We have learnt each of the parts a plant and labelled them in our Literacy, and we have also learnt that plants need, water, light and nutrients from soil to help them grow. Everyone has enjoyed playing in the Garden Centre role play, developing their own narratives and exploring with new vocabulary. We have also had play dough mud and artificial flowers for the children to get creative with.

Our gardeners worked so hard to brighten up the EYFS outdoor area this week. We have planted Begonias, Pansies and Petunias. As the children were planting we discussed the tools we were using, the different parts of the plants, and how we are going to look after them. It was so much fun!

On Friday the whole school, held and Artist Day. Each class focused on an artist and their style of work, and celebrated it by creating their own pieces. Reception and Nursery chose to learn about Jackson Pollock, he began painting with his canvases laid out on the studio floor, and he developed what was later called his "drip" technique. The children had endless amounts of fun outside dripping paint in patterns and getting messy. I am sure our pieces will be worth a small fortune!

This week in Reception the children have loved learning all about mini-beasts. We thought of 10 different kinds of insects at the start of the week, and now we know 20! In Literacy we read the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and the children have loved being able to retell it through their writing. We have had some beautiful pieces of writing with pre-cursive letter formation. Our creative area was used to make all of the fruit the hungry caterpillar ate throughout the story. The children enjoyed getting their hands sticky in the glue.

In Maths, we have learnt all about symmetry and create beautiful, patterned butterflies, just like the one that appears at the end of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.' They look lovely on our display and hanging from the ceiling. We have also practised recognising and writing our numbers in words this week, the children amazed me with how well they did.

Our favourite part of the week, was digging for worms in our mud kitchen, and woodland area on the school week and making our own wormeries. The children did not hesitate to get their hands dirty and pick up the worms. We made our own wormeries using recycled plastic bottles and layers and soil and sand. Each wormeris has at least one worm inside, as they wriggle around you will be able to see their trail through the mud and sand. Keep them in your back garden and check on them to see how they're doing.

Have a lovely long weekend. Enjoy the bank holiday.

A big welcome back to the Summer term, I hope you're all feeling rested after a lovely Easter break.

This week in Reception we have been learning all about the Life Cycle of a Frog as we have some frog spawn in our classroom. We enjoyed some sensory play as the children placed their hands in some 'magic frog spawn.' The children thought of lots of describing words as they dipped their hands into the bowl.

In Literacy this week, the children have learnt how to draw a diagram showing the life cycle of a frog, write labels and also sentences to explain the changes that happen. They produced some fantastic independent work in their Wonderful Writing books. We also worked in groups, to create the life cycle together, the children worked very well together, helping each other to draw and sound out words.

We celebrated Queen Elizabeth II 90th Birthday on Thursday. We practised counting all the way to 90, which took us quite a long time. Reception celebrated Her Majesty's Birthday with a little garden party outside, enjoying yummy cakes!

The glorious weather this week has meant that we can spend lots of time learning outside, and the children have loved it. Look at how much learning and fun has taken place in our EYFS outdoor area.

In our Maths this week we have been looking at making number bonds to 10. The children worked hard to find lots of different ways to make a total of 10. Our Literacy lessons we wrote acrostic poems all about the signs of spring. We enjoyed a lovely Spring walk around the school grounds, and we had lots of fun jumping in the puddles! We took clip boards out with us and wrote down all of the signs of spring that we noticed. It was lots of fun.

We have had pretty daffodils in our classroom this week. The children looked at them closely and drew their own interpretation of them using oil pastels.

We hope you have a lovely two week break.

This week the children have really enjoyed learning about the Fire Service. They have developed their imaginative play and vocabulary playing in our Fire Station role play area. There was lots of excitement in the classroom on Wednesday when the children noticed smoke coming from the back of the school field. They all wanted to help, with hose pipes to put the fire out.

We had a visit from the Communtiy Support Officers this week, the children wrote down their own qwuestions to ask them. We found out lots of information, and the children listend so well and learnt lots. It was such a fun afternoon, I think we definitey have some future CSO/Police Officers in our class.

In Maths this week, the children worked hard, halving numbers and sharing objects equally between groups of two and four. Our task was to make sure that the tangerines were shared out equally for Bumble and Betsy Bear to eat. The children did an excellent job checking that each group was equal.

On Thursday the Easter Bunny visited Grange Valley, and left and Easter Egg Hunt for Reception to complete. We all worked well together to help find the eggs, and enjoyed a lovely treat of mini eggs and hot cross buns in the afternoon.

We would finally like to congratulate Miss Talbot, as she is getting married this weekend, and next week will be called Mrs Baines! Reception hope you have a wonderful day. Also, a big Happy Birthday to Mrs Mather, the children made a card, and we sang Happy Birthday to her.

In Maths this week we have been learning to tell the time and order the different events in a day. The children have all enjoyed playing `What time is it Mr Wolf?` outside on the playground.

Reception had a crime to investigate this week, Bumble Bear had been taken! We wrote our own Wanted posters to try and catch the person who had taken him. We found out that it was Mr Robinson in Year 4 that had taken Bumble. Reception dressed up as police officers and we went to bring him back to our classroom where he belongs. Mr Robinson only wanted Bumble Bear for a cuddle!

On Friday, we visited Christ Church to learn all about the Easter Story. The children listened to the different parts if the story, completed lovely Easter craft activities and went on an Ester egg hunt around the church. It was so much fun, and the children were so well mannered and behaved.

This week, we have read the story Whatever Next, by Jill Murphy. We used our class bear, bumble, to act out the story of Baby Bear going to the moon in a box used as a rocket. The children have produced some fantastic writing. We retold the story in the correct order and we wrote speech bubbles for each of the characters.

Reception created their own representations of the moon using paper plates. We mixed flour and paint together to create a bumpy effect. We then wrote a sentence about what we have learnt about the moon.

In Maths, we have learnt that doubling means adding the same number together to find a new total. We learnt to double the objects by counting out, and adding our fingers together and writing number sentences. We also played a Robin Hood game that involved doubling, click on the following link to play it at home: http://www.ictgames.com/robindoubles.html

During our PE lessons this week we looked at rolling in gymnastics. We looked at lots of different ways we can roll our bodies, using a straight line, a circle and completing a forward roll with Miss Daniels. Reception fully understood how to make sure we keep our bodies safe when we are rolling.

This week we have been reading the story 'Man on the Moon', which is all about Bob, who has a very important job to clean the moon. The story has inspired the children's imaginative play and independent learning in provision. We have made aliens in the play dough, explored with our space station role play, and made telescopes to look for Bob on the moon.

Katie's Grandpa very kindly sent in his real telescope on Thursday. The children were so excited to set it up and take it outside to explore, and look for aliens.

In Maths, we have been solving subtraction word problems, using objects, pictures and number lines. We are amazed by how well the children have understood the tricky concept of taking away and counting backwards. Some of us wrote subtraction number sentences.

We celebrated World Book Day on Friday, and all of the children looked fantastic, dressed up as their favourite characters.

Welcome back to the second half of the Spring term, the children are now over half way through Reception and we are so excited to see how much more hey can amaze us with their learning and development.

A lot of children have been busy over the holidays with dancing, swimming, football and days out. Olivia, Freya and Ruby received awards for dancing, Joseph received a trophy from football club, and Zilan brought in lovely pictures of a family day out at the Sea Life Centre.

It was lovely to see the children returning to school with such enthusiasm and excitement to show off their aliens that had been made over the half term. Take a look at the pictures below, we have a very creative class!

This week the children have enjoyed reading the story Aliens Love Underpants, especially Granny's Bloomers, and making a trampoline out of knickers! Everyone designed their own pair of underpants for their alien, and went on an Underpants Hunt around school. When we found them we wrote a sentence to describe them; we had some stripy, spotty and multi-coloured designs.

We enjoyed a lovely walk on a frosty morning this week. Our school surroundings looked so beautiful and icey, we had to go and explore.

In Maths this week, we have been learning about money. We looked at different coins and talked about how much they represent. The children worked hard to sort the coins into piles of more or less than 20p and some of us added coins together to find the total amount.

We have had lots of Frozen activities in our provision this week, which he children have really enjoyed using, particularly the messy shaving foam. Our Literacy activity this week was to write an invitation to a Frozen Fever party, the children produced fantastic writing and they all understand that an invitation needs the day, place and time included.

This week we learnt about Islam as a part of our learning about other cultures, countries and beliefs. Zilan very kindly brought in her head scarves and prayer mat from home. Zevin from Year 2 kindly came down to teach us all how to speak Turkish. The children really enjoyed learning about Islam. The afternoon of learning lead to this lovely quote from Ellena;

"it`s good that people are different, because if we were all the same it would be boring."

On Wednesday we had our Messy Maths Workshop. Thank you to all the parents that came and took part. It was a great way to show you how we teach maths in early years and give you an insight of how you can develop your child`s understanding of maths at home.

This week in Maths the children have been learning all about capacity. We looked at the capacity of different containers, and the children can confidently discuss that a larger container has larger capacity and a smaller container has a smaller capacity. We developed our independent learning in our water area throughout the week.

Reception became scientists this week as a part of our learning all about winter. We investigated which was the quickest way to melt ice. The children thought of lots of different ideas to melt ice, such as; hot water, the sun, a radiator and a hairdryer. Our investigation was carried out across the week and the children wrote up each part of the experiment. We found that the hot water melted the ice the quickest.

We created fantastic snowmen pictures this week using cotton wool balls for our display. Each snowman is so different and unique, they look lovely on our window.

This week Reception have been so busy learning lots of new wonderful facts from our Dinosaur theme. We have learnt that Paeleontologist's are people who discover dinosaur fossils and bones. We become fossil hunters and made our own out of slat dough and toy dinosaurs.

In Maths this week we have been solving addition number problems, by adding two groups together to find the new amount. Some of us counted on our fingers and some children chose to use a number line. What clever children we have choosing their own methods to solve maths problems.

We conducted a science experiment this week, with our Dino Land. The children wanted to have a real volcano eruption, so that's exactly what we did. Reception watched in amazement as the volcano erupted with hot red lava. During this experiment the children used some terrific language and asked questions of each other.

On Wednesday we enjoyed a lovely walk to the park, as we have been learning about out local community. Thank you to the parents who came with us, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Reception had a big shock on Thursday morning after Hymn Practise, our classroom had been ruined. Luckily Miss Daniels' iPad was set up ready to record our learning for the day. Have a look at what it captured....

An enormous T-Rex had been in our classroom and made a huge mess! The children could not believe their eyes. They decided to look for it around school and warn other members of staff to keep an eye out for it. We then produced fantastic newspaper reports to tell everyone what had happened.

In Literacy this week we have read the story of Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs. The children really enjoyed reading this story, and are able to retell it without using any props or images. We looked at writing speech bubbles for the different characters, and discussed what each of them would say. We are so proud of what they were able to produce.

In Maths we looked at measuring height and length. We used our dinosaur toys to put them in order from smallest to largest, and the children developed lots of new mathematical vocabulary. The children also decided to expand their learning in other areas of provision; we made different length snakes in the play dough, built towers with construction blocks for our height, and also measured objects using different units of measure.

This week we also got to explore with different musical instruments. We learnt the names of Xylophones, Drums, Maraca's and Agogo's. We had a very noisy classroom as the children played them to see what sounds they could make.

Our Dino World is now well under way, Reception have loved getting messy using PVA glue to paper mache the cardboard. Next week we will be adding trees and also volcanoes!

Try this at home: I am thinking of a shape with 6 sides and 6 corners, what is it?

We have also read the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff this week. The children are confident in retelling the story and discussing each of the characters. We are encouraging the children to use expression when reading, they all had brilliant troll voices.

I am sure you are all aware that our troll went missing from the classroom. The children wrote Wanted posters to find him, they noticed footprints left outside on the playground, and tangerine peal, we think he must have been hungry. and on Friday Mrs Threlkeld had a fright when she noticed a big, green, troll with sharp claws in her office. She rushed to tell us about it and we brought him safely back to our classroom.  We also created our own trolls in the creative area, the children chose their own resources and discussed the process of making it.

This week that children have learnt all about Bonfire Night and The Gunpowder Plot. We acted out the story of Guy Fawkes and the plotters, trying to blow up the houses of parliament. The children worked hard on their independent writing this week, using lots of describing words for fireworks. We also learnt a rhyme about 5th November, see if they can say it with you at home:

'Remember, remember the 5th November,

Gunpowder, treason and plot,

I see no reason, why gunpowder treason,

should ever be forgot.'

Reception completed a science experiment this week, to create our own fireworks in water using food colouring. We learnt the names of new pieces of equipment such as glass beakers and pipettes. The children used the pipettes to drop the food colouring into the water and mix it with other colours. We all watched in amazement as the colours dispersed to make water fireworks.

Our role play area has changed in a campsite for this half term. The children were so excited when they saw it on Monday morning. they were eager to develop their imaginative play and engage with each other, it was lovely to see.

We have had a very creative week in Reception. The children explored what happens when different colours are mixed together using a variety of resources. We used different patterned rollers, and we also produced lovely art work by blowing the paint through straws. Our classroom looks very colourful.

I cannot believe that the first half term is over. It seems like two minutes ago the children arrived proudly dressed in their uniforms for their first day in Reception. Myself and Mrs Mather could not be happier with the children's progress over the past 8 weeks. They are truly a wonderful class, and we already can't wait to start the next new term.

This week the children thoroughly enjoyed our 'Spooky Stuff' theme of the week. The highlight was definitely the Pumpkin Party! The children's costumes were fantastic, thank you for all of your efforts. Mrs Mather and I definitely got a fright from some of their costumes. Have a look at all of the wonderful outfits.

The children loved making potions in the gloop, they were mesmerised how it turned from a solid into a liquid. It was magic! The language the children developed as they watched it drip from their fingers was incredible. The canopy became very messy as you can imagine!

Our creative activity this week was to make spiders and spiders webs. The children concentrated as they threaded the wool around the plates to create their webs. When making our spiders the children each counted out 8 legs, and stuck on some googley eyes. They have been hanging in our creative area all week. I think they scared some of our teachers.

The children danced the afternoon away at the Ugly Bug Disco on Tuesday. I am sure they were all very tried when they got home.

We hope that you all have a lovely and well deserved break over the half term. Have fun and most importantly stay safe.

See you all back in school bright and early on Monday 2nd November.

We have learnt all about farmers, and how they work hard at this time of year to harvest all of their crops and vegetables. We have planted wheat in our play dough and used tractors to dig them up. We also looked at different types of food that contain wheat such as bread, pasta, Weetabix, and cereals.

Thank you for bringing in the cardboard boxes, the children had so much fun working together to talk through their ideas to build a Combine Harvester. I think you'll agree that it looks amazing.

In Maths, we have been practising counting sounds, actions and objects. We played a game were we rolled the number dice to read the number and then roll the actions dice and act out the actions. The children had lots of fun. We have also played Bong Drums on Education City, click on the link to play the game.

We enjoyed making yummy bread on Thursday. We read the instructions and checked all of our equipment, and discussed the method we needed to use to make sure the bread would rise. All the children worked hard using their muscles to kneed the bread. We enjoyed tasting some delicious vegetable soup, and dunking in the bread that we worked so hard to bake.

This week, we have been learning all about Autumn. The children loved searching for signs on our Autumn Walk around our lovely school grounds and down the country lane at the side of school. In our Literacy session, we wrote a list of each of the things we spotted, such as conkers, leaves, and squirrels.

We were also lucky enough to have a trip to Haydock Library this week, and the children blew us away with how sensible they were during the walk their, and throughout the session. The children were able to listen to a story, and explore the different books available. I hope you're all going to become members.

In Maths this week, we looked at groups of more and fewer. we counted out groups of autumn objects and wrote down how many were in each pile and discussed which had more and fewer. The children amazed me with their understanding of mathematical language at this early stage of the school year.

We gave the children access to lots of different resources and asked them to create their own Big Bad Wolves from the story. Most  of the children chose to use paper plates, cups, cotton wool, paint and googley eyes. They're all unique and we think that they look amazing!

The children had lots of fun in the mud outside, they decided to make Wolf Pie! I don't think it would have tasted very nice.

We all enjoyed making Red Riding Hood cakes on Friday, we made red icing and used chocolate sprinkles. We went for a walk in the woods and enjoyed eating our cakes and retelling the story without any props or visual prompts, excellent retelling Reception.

There was a cake left over for Mrs Threlkeld. She was very pleased to hear about our learning this week, and enjoyed our cake with her dinner.

When we came to school on Monday morning someone had frozen our superhero toys. The children think it was Elsa!! We had to think of ways to rescue the characters and melt the ice. We decided to rub it with our warm hands and take it outside to be in the heat of the sun.

We have practised lots of number recognition and counting games this week. The children had to squirt the water guns at the correct numbers. They have also been practising recognising letters and the sounds they make, we had to dig for them in our sand pit.

This week we introduced the children to ‘Peer Massage’, each child has a partner and the check that they have gentle hands, and ask permission of their partner before they begin massage. We then go through a short routine of actions on our partner’s backs, it is very relaxing.

We also introduced Yoga to the children this week, it is perfect to for their physical development to strengthen their muscles and practise balancing.

During floor book time last week, some of the children mentioned that they wanted to fly, so we created an opportunity for the children to fly through the sky like real superheroes, take a look…..

New addtions to our class this week; Michael-Angelo, Leoardo, Donatello and Raphael. The Ninja turtles, created by the children to watch all of the super things we do in class.

  Enjoy the weekend.

Well Done to the Star of the week Anna for settling into her new school life so well and making lots of new friends.

Merit Award: ‘I can think of ways to make our school friendly'

Gold – Lily Hesketh, Silver – Bailey Hilton and Bronze – Ruby Cordingley

Happy 5th Birthday to Ruby!

We have completed our first full week in Reception, and the children have had a fantastic, but very tiring week. They have all ate their dinner in the school hall, and played on the large school playground with the ‘big kids.’ It was lovely to see older brothers and sisters so eager to play with and look after them.

We paid a visit to the horses at the bottom of our school field and sat around our beautiful woodland area and sang nursery rhymes. We found some conker husks and cut them open back in class to see what was inside.

We celebrated Britain’s longest reigning Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. We had a lovely assembly, were we sang the National Anthem, and in class we made our own royal crowns and coloured in the flag of Great Britain, which Grace told us is called the Union Jack.

On Friday we had our first PE lesson in Reception, and the children did very well getting changed independently. This is something we encourage children to do. The children enjoyed going outside and using lots of different equipment on the field.

Enjoy the weekend.

Introducing Reception....

Happy 5th birthday to Jack R and Lois!

We want to give all of the children and families a big, warm welcome to Reception. We are so pleased with how well the children have settled into their new classroom environment and daily routine. It was lovely to see them all looking so smart and grown up in their new school uniforms. This week the children have made new friends, and are already beginning to build strong relationships with each other and staff members, which is so lovely to see.

The children have spent this week exploring their new classroom, take a look at the fun they have been up to.

We are looking forward to having the children in full time next week, and we are positive that they will settle into their busy schools days quickly. Well done on a fantastic first week in school Reception, you should be extremely proud of yourselves, because Mrs Mather and I are.

Have a lovely weekend.
