Friday 18th July 2014 - End of Year Butterfly Party

What a wonderful end of year party day we have had! The party was butterfly themed and it was lovely to

see some children dressed as butteflies, some dressed as caterpillars and lots of children in their best

clothes!

We ate party food - thank you to all the parents, played pass the parcel and danced to our favourite songs

by Katy Perry and One Direction!

It was a lovely time to enjoy with our friends and teachers to celebrate the end of our year in Nursery 2014.

Also, Miss Abbott celebrated her birthday today! We all sang Happy Birthday as Miss Abbott blew out the

candles on her butterfly birthday cake made by Mrs Vance!

We would like to thank all of our parents who donated items of food for our party, and thank you to Libbys

Mum for the decorations and Buttefly themed sweets and thank you to Katies Mum for the Butterfly

peg sweets.

Have a fantastic weekend and we shall see you all on Monday for our final three days in Nursery!

Week Commencing 7th July 2014

We are enjoying our last few weeks together in Nursery.

We have been enjoying our outdoor area as the weather has been lovely. We have been playing with the water

tray using the drain pipe and watching the water pour down into the bowls and we have enjoyed making things

using the MegaBlocks. On Wednesday we joined in with Reception as they did a special dance ro celebrate the

World Cup in Brazil.

 "Look its a giraffe!"

"I've been Strawberry picking, I've brought some for you."

We are looking forward to our end of year party next Friday 18th July 2014, our Butterfly theme party. Children

can dress up as a butterfly or a caterpillar, but there is no obligation to do this, they can wear their own clothes.

If your child normally comes to Nursery in the afternoon we are asking that you bring your child for the morning session instead on this day.

Week Commencing 30th June 2014

We were really pleased when all our five butterflies hatched successfully last week. Libby took them home to

look after over the weekend and made sure that they were fed and cared for. We were all very excited when we

released them on Monday. We released them into the long grass meadow area of our school field. Some of the

butterfles were a little bit scared at first and it took them a while to leave our teachers hands. It was lovely to see

them eventually flutter off to explore their new surroundings.

We were extremely proud of how all the children coped with our Sports Day, particularly with the change of

venue at the last minute, due to the weather. It was lovely to see so many people who came to support the

children for this fun occasion! Our children were all very proud of their medals and certificates that they recieved.

More Sports Day pictures will follow...

Week Commencing 23rd June 2014

We have had a very exciting week...

On Wednesday we arrived at Nursery to find that our butterflies had started to hatch from their chrysalis. Four

butterflies emerged on Wednesday and the final butterfly emerged on Thursday. We gave the butterflies apple

to eat and we are going to observe them in their net for a couple more days before setting them free on our field

next week. Miss Anslow found a Happy Birthday song on the internet that we sang as the butterflies hatched

and then we sang and did the actions to a song called 'Fly Fly the Butterfly', the link can be found below.

On Friday morning we went on our long awaited trip to Prendoolys. We had lots of fun on the slides and in the

soft play area and ball pool. Some of us enjoyed dancing and playing musical instruments and we finished off

the visit singing some of our favourite songs from Frozen. We would like to thank all of the grown ups that came

on our visit and looked after us and some even enjoyed having a go on the soft play equipment themselves.

We have all loved watching our caterpillars develop and change and we were really excited to see that by the

end of the week they had attached themselves to the top of the container and have developed into a chrysalis.

We were reminded to be very careful during this time as a magical transformation is happening inside the

chrysalis. We will look forward to meeting our butterflies very soon!

A lot of changes are starting to happen now for the Nursery children as we are in our final term. This week,

those children who are moving to Grange Valley Reception enjoyed a stay and play session with their grown

ups in the Reception classroom and they met their new teachers Miss Daniels and Mrs Steele. Some of our

children who are moving to a new school also visited their new Reception class and met their new teachers.

Over the next few weeks, those children who will be staying in Nursery in September 2014 will meet some of

their new Nursery friends and spend time with their Nursery teachers for next year: Miss Prescott, Miss Abbott,

It was also lovely to welcome five new children to Nursery - Bella, Kiea, Jack, Ella and Harley!

This week we celebrated St Georges Day. As well as talking about the story of St George and the Dragon we made our own England flags. On Wednesday we had very English jam sandwiches which we helped to make and also had fun pouring water from a teapot into cups using a real tea set!

Also, during outdoor play we have spotted lots of creatures as the weather is getting warmer. Our teachers reminded us to be very gentle as we looked at the creatures. We found three ladybirds playing together! Miss Anslow said that they could be a family of ladybirds and Ellis said that maybe one could be the cousin!

Week Commencing 31st March 2014

This week in Nursery we have continued to talk about Spring and new life, looking at how eggs develop and chicks hatch. This lead onto Easter and the symbols that remind us of Easter, eggs, chicks, lambs, bunnies, the cross.

We enjoyed a counting activity in group time, counting out Creme Eggs answering questions such as 'How many?' and counting one-to-one.

On Thursday for snack we enjoyed eating hot cross buns and we talked about the cross and how it reminds us of Jesus. We had a go at tracing the cross on photographs of hot cross buns and real hot cross buns! We also watched a clip about how a little boy called Toby celebrated Easter, the link to this is below.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/lets-celebrate/watch/lets-celebrate-easter2/

We made yummy rice crispy nest cakes in time for our busy Easter day on Friday!

On Friday we had a day filled with Easter activites! Our teachers were very impressed with our Easter bonnets that we had made at home and we each got a chocolate bunny for our efforts. Thank you for all your hard work doing this at home.

After we had shown our Easter bonnets we got very excited as each group took part in an egg hunt! We used a basket and collected the eggs outdoors and we counted how many. As we were having fun outdoors a special visitor had been to leave us a little treat in our Easter baskets but we had missed him! He had left a note though saying that he would call back to see us...and he did! We all got very excited when Easter Bunny came! What a perfect way to end the Spring term!

We will see you all back in Nursery on Tuesday 22nd April 2014.

Happy Easter, from all of your Nursery teachers.
