Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week our theme has been pirates. The children were very excited when they found real treasure in our pirate treasure chest.

On Wednesday Captain Black Beard stole our treasure! We went on a treasure hunt around school to find it. The children very confidently asked teachers and the older children if they had seen a pirate with a big black beard.

We made our own treasure maps.

Take a look at some of our other pirate activities this week...

This week our story was called 'Jasper's Beanstalk'. We read the story and then talked about how Jasper planted his bean and looked after it until it grew into a giant beanstalk. We followed the steps in from the story to plant our own beans. We hope the children enjoy looking after them at home. After planting our seeds our hands were dirty. We reviewed effective hand washing and washed our hands until they were all clean.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week we've had pixie visitors in Nursery. They've moved in to our wonderful new woodland Reading Area. Three pixie doors magically appeared and the children were intrigued to find out who lived inside.

Our pixie visitor's sent us a letter to tell us about the rules for our new Reading Area. The children have been following the rules this week and they've had lots of fun sharing stories with their friends. Some of our children even wrote letters back to the pixies.

On Thursday our children brought in their favourite books to share with the pixies. The Gruffalo was a very popular story.

When the children had gone home on Tuesday night the pixies came out to play. The teachers showed the children photographs of the pixies and the children asked lots of questions about them. After playing with the pixie puppets some of our children made their own.

We used lolly sticks to make pixie doors to take home. We decorated them with lots of shiny sequins so the pixies would like them. We used sticks and flowers to make pixie wands. The children pretended to use them to shrink so they could fit in the tiny pixie doors. On Wednesday the pixies left us ingredients to make magic potions. The children added leaves, flowers, coloured liquids and powders.

On Thursday our children followed the fairy cakes recipe to make some delicious cakes. When they were finished we sprinkled they with pixie dust.  Our caterpillars are still in their cocoons. We have moved them into the net now ready for when they hatch.

W/B: 2nd May 2017:

This week we've been watching our caterpillars carefully as they've grown and grown and grown. Our caterpillars are preparing for the next stage in the cycle. Hopefully when we return to Nursery on Monday they will be in their cocoon.

Our sports day is on Friday 26th May. This week we've been out on the field learning the rules and practising running in the lanes. After this we went out to explore our wonderful school field.

After talking in group the children decided that Elsa had come to school over night and used her magic hands to freeze the teddies. The children wrote her letters to tell her not to do it again.

We made beautiful Elsa wands to give us magical powers. We hope the children don't freeze anyone at home!

It was very windy on Friday so we made frozen kites to use outside.

On Friday we explored Elsa's magic frozen gloves.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week Santa sent a cheeky elf to spy on our children in nursery. His name was Elvis and he came all the way from the North Pole. As the children were sleeping Elvis the elf had lots of fun playing with our toys. He came into nursery through a tiny little door. Each day the children put out treats, drinks and toys to tempt Elvis out. One day when we came into nursery Elvis had eaten all of the chocolates out of our advent calendar. Santa had to send us some new ones.

It was wonderful to see how Elvis inspired the children's writing. The children wrote letters, notes, captions, lists, etc.

One morning we found poor Elvis frozen in a block of ice! Elsa had used her magic hands to freeze him. Santa had to come to nursery and take him back to the North Pole. He sat in front of Santa's big fire until he was melted and then he came back. The children were shocked when they found all the fruit has smiley faces on.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. The children helped us decorate our Christmas tree, do you like it?

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week we have been reading the story 'Whatever Next!'. The children enjoyed using props to act out Baby Bear's adventure to the moon. Ask your child to tell you about the story.

Our children had fun exploring alien ice eggs. They used their own ideas to melt the ice and try to free the baby aliens. The children wrapped them up to make them warm, they used tools to try and crack them and they rubbed salt on them.

We received a letter from an alien called Zeb. Some of our children used special alien paper to write back. It was lovely to see what confident writers our children are becoming.

We made alien headbands. We practised decorating them using circles and line patterns. The children counted how many eyes they wanted on their headband.

See below some of the other space themed activities our children have been up to...

On Friday it was Children in  Need. Our children came to nursery wearing odd socks and they all kindly donated £1 to Children in Need.

On Friday we couldn't resist going out on our school field to explore the hailstones! We put on our wet suits, wellies and coats to keep us warm and dry. The children had lots of fun making patterns in the hailstones and jumping in VERY deep puddles like Peppa Pig.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week we have been pretending to be fire fighters. The children enjoyed answering the phone and recording the emergencies. They ran around the playground pretending to put fires out.

We used our tubes to make super rocket models. They look fantastic zooming around in our Creative Area.

Outside we practiced our firework moves using streamers. We practiced waving them high, waving them low and spinning as fast as we could!

Our playground looked beautiful when the children had finished using chalk to draw firework patterns.

The children used 2D shapes to create rocket pictures.

Do you like our firework pictures? We used pipe cleaners to create firework patterns.

For our Friday treat the children made sparklers. We hope they enjoyed them.

Today was Remembrance Day (11/11/16). We talked to the children about why we wear a poppy on Remembrance Day to remember all the brave soldiers who fought in the wars past and present. Some of the children went into school to watch the KS2 assembly and some stayed in nursery and we had 2 minutes silence. We made our own poppies.

Thank you to all of our parents who came to our stay and play sessions this week. We hope you found them useful.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

What a lovely first week back in nursery! We talked about Halloween and the children shared stories with their teachers and friends about their spooky costumes and trick or treating fun. On Wednesday, we got to see all of those spooky costumes as we enjoyed our ‘Pumpkin Party’! We danced, played musical statues and enjoyed two games of pass the parcel! We also enjoyed our yummy party food treat!

The story the children enjoyed this week was Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson, the children loved joining in with the repeating phrases in the story— “The witch tapped the broomstick...and whoosh! They were gone.”

We have been very busy in our creative area this week, we have made pumpkins and ghosts - recognising the shapes that we used to make the eyes, a nose and a mouth. We also noticed that lots of leaves had fallen off the tree in the outdoor area so we collected these leaves and had a think about what we could do with them. Miss Abbott thought of a great idea to make night owls and use the leaves as wings! Our night owls are sitting nicely on their tree in the creative area. We hope that Miss Prescott likes our new display!

On Friday, we talked about the importance of being safe around fireworks and sparklers on Bonfire Night and we made a delicious seasonal treat— chocolate apples!

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

In group we talked about vehicle registration plates. We talked about the fact that they are all unique and no vehicle has the same. In the writing area the children made their own. The teachers were really impressed with the children's pencil grip and how some children can already form some beautiful letters and numbers.

In our role-play area this week the children have enjoyed working at the car garage pretending to be mechanics. The children used the tools to fix the vehicles, they used the buckets and sponges to wash the vehicles and some children looked at the new car brochures and pretended to buy new cars.

Thank you to everyone who sent in junk modelling resources. The children used the resources to construct some fantastic vehicles. Some children made cars, some made buses and some made vans. The children all helped count out 4 wheels for their vehicles.

Outside we pretended to move like different vehicles. We drove on the road like cars, buses and motorbikes. We made a long line and pretended to be a train. We counted back from 10 and blasted off like a rocket!

One of the boys favourite activities this week was car racing. The children took turns to see which car would zoom down the pipes the fastest and which ones would go the furthest.

What a great way to finish off a fabulous half term! We had fun dancing to lots of different party songs, all chosen by the children! Our favourite was the Conga.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week we have been talking about Harvest. We have been learning the names of some vegetables, sampling them and we used them to print some Harvest collages. We learnt a song about how the farmers  harvest their fruit and vegetables.

At group time we practised our counting. We rolled the dice and counted out the correct amount of fruit and vegetables in our Harvest baskets.

Our story this week was 'The Little Red Hen'. In group time the children enjoyed pretending to act out the story. They joined in with the repeated phrases, "Not I said the ..." After the story we also talked about the importance of helping our friends.

We followed the recipe from the Little Red Hen and we baked our own bread. The children had fun adding the ingredients, mixing it up and kneading it ready for the over. It tasted delicious.

Miss Welding helped the children made their own little red hen's. They followed the instructions to stick all the pieces together.

On Friday we had vegetable soup and fresh bread for our snack. The children really enjoyed it and most of them ate it all up!

Some of our children enjoyed helping wash the babies. They took turns to hold the babies and use the soap and sponges to clean them.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

On Wednesday we went on an autumn walk. See the pictures below for our morning and afternoon walks.

We collected autumn objects on our walk. We found conkers, leaves and acorns. We used them to make beautiful autumn collages.

We used a range of different media to print some amazing autumn trees. We used foil, sponges, leaves and cotton wool.

Outside the children had fun decorating some huge autumn leaves that fell off the Horse Chestnut tree.

This week we have been practicing our Rhyme of the Week everyday. On Friday we went outside to sing it using the autumn  leaves to help.

Well done to everyone who took part in the NSPCC colouring event. As a school we raised £236.50.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week our learning has been themed around 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. This is Miss Prescott's favourite story. We read the story together and watched it on the whiteboard. The children have each decorated a bear using the different scenes from the story. We've used them to make a wonderful display in Yellow Room. Some of our children have been using the small world resources to act it out.

As part of one of our activities this week the children have explored the different scenes from the story. They used some fanatic words to describe them.

  • Long wavy grass
  • A deep cold river
  • Thick oozy mud
  • A big dark forest
  • A swirling whirling snowstorm
  • A narrow gloomy cave

My favourite day this week was Friday. We went on a real bear hunt. As we hunted we sang the story words. We explored long wavy grass, thick oozy mud and a big dark forest. We found some paw prints, but who did they belong to? We went deep into the forest and found two giant bears!

Mrs Holcroft surprised us on Thursday! She came down to nursery with a special delivery of new toys. The children enjoyed helping open them and then playing with them. We took all the boxes outside and the children decorated them and used them as dens.

On Friday we enjoyed having snack together in group. We chatted about all the nice things we had been doing during the week. It was great to see how independent our children are.

Thursday was a very windy day! We made kites and played with them outside on the playground.

Well done to our Stars of the Week!

This week the children brought their favorite teddy bears to nursery. They had lots of fun playing with them and showing them all the lovely things they do in nursery. Some of our children pretended to have teddy bears picnics.

On Thursday we the children made their own jam sandwiches for our picnic.

We then put on our wellies and went out onto the field to take our teddy bears for a walk. We stopped off in our wonderful woodland area to have a sing along. We sang Round and Round the Garden and Five Little Teddy Bears. When we got back into nursery we had a teddy bears picnic. We had jam sandwiches, cake and milk.

In the Construction Area some of our children enjoyed using Duplo to make chairs and beds for their bears.

It was great to see some of the boys performing on our stage. They sang the Grand Old Duke of York and did the actions.

Well done to our Stars of the Week

In group time this week we looked at the children's family photographs and talked about our family members. The children have each made their own paper plate picture. They will look fantastic on our display.

This week we celebrated 100 years of Roald Dahl. We made cakes and used sweets and chocolate from the Willy Wonka factory to decorate them. We also had a visit from the BFG!

This week it has been nice to see our children playing together and making new friends.

Well done to our Stars of the Week.

What a wonderful first week we've had in nursery. Take a look below at some of the things we have been doing...

Some of our children have enjoyed seeing their older siblings on the school field.

On Friday we visited the school hall for our first PE session. The children had lots of fun stretching, running, jumping and skipping.
