Science Week

This year we have linked Geography and Science together and had 'Our  Wonderful World' week!

Classes have had a cross curricular week with lots of  exciting events taking place.  For Science we have looked at animals around the world and on Thursday of this week we had Rowan's dad visit us with all his reptiles. The children had a great time learning about all the reptiles, finding out what they like to eat, how they grow and develop, their habitats and lots more!  The children had so many questions to ask, but the best bit was when they got to hold them!

Kites for Kids Project - Further Developing Scientific Enquiry Skills.

In assembly children found out about how the world produces enough food for everyone, however not everyone has enough food!  1 in 8 people on this planet don’t have enough to eat and more than 2 million children die every year because they cannot get enough food to eat. Places like Asia and Africa are were some of the children suffer the most. Over a 100 charities and organisations have come together to tell people this very important message about food and hunger across the world and Grange Valley wanted to take part in this to show that we all want a better world for everyone. Everyone needs enough food and we wanted to spread this message by making and decorating kites with the children's  own messages!  We then used the kites for various science investigations across school!  The aim was  to further develop inquisitive young scientists and increase the opportunity for children to raise their own questions and devise experiments to find out answers, evaluate their work and to see if their results were fair, reliable and accurate.

Through this week we also further developed skills of observation, drawing , measuring, recording, analysing and calculating.  Children  were encouraged ot re measure and check for accuracy when measuring how far the kites traveled.

Children measured the speed at which they moved with the kites and found out that the faster they moved the higher the kite flew!
