Grange Valley Primary & Nursery School

  1. Our Curriculum
  2. Our Mathematics

Mathematics helps children to make sense of the world around them through developing their ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems.

It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives.

Through their growing knowledge and understanding, children learn to appreciate the contribution made by many cultures to the development and application of mathematics.

Hi, I'm Miss Whelan and I have the pleasure to lead Maths at Grange Valley. Leading Maths enables me to see the excitement the subject brings in our youngest children all the way through the age phases to those that leave us to move on to their secondary school journey, equipped to develop further in to adulthood.

Mathematics helps children to make sense of the world around them. It teaches them to organise, reason, problem-solve and think in abstract ways. Mathematics in school prepares children to be effective and responsible citizens because it is fundamental to everyday life. At Grange Valley we endeavour to ensure that children develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards Mathematics. We plan and teach mathematics in a stimulating, contextual and engaging way.

We value the children’s input to continuing to refine our curriculum ensuring it meet the needs of every Grange Valley child. The aim of mini leaders is to enhance children’s personal development skill whilst making a positive difference to our school. Teams will meet at least once every half term.
