Money, Money, Money Week

Linked to our PSHE and Maths Curriculum we held a week in school all about money! The week was cross curricular and helped all our children learn a range of new skills, such as:

  • where money comes from
  • what we use money for
  • how to manage it
  • how to keep it safe
  • what choices we have about spending and what influences this.

We wanted to support the children in learning about the role money plays in their lives and the world around them.  Older children began to develop an understanding of the concepts of interest, loan, debt, and tax along with the skills that make someone enterprising.

We also wanted the children to understand the importance of education and aim high by having something to ‘aspire’ to in later life, for example going to university, college or career.  During the week we had lots of exciting events taking place including visitors from the world of work, who came in to talk to the children.

Our visitors from the world of work include charities who talked to the children about how they raise money and what the money is used for. The School Council coordinated a project whereby the children voted on a charity to support at Grange Valley.

During the week the children used their business skills to purchase resources to make items to sell and make a small profit.  All profits from the sale were donated to charity.

To finish off the week, we held a ‘Business Day!’  We invited the children to come into school dressed in business clothes.
