Working together with Outwood Academy

Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon taking part in their science lesson at Outwood. They blew the staff away with their prior knowledge of protons, neutrons and electrons and loved exploring the equipment to help support their learning of electricity!

Year 5 were very lucky as they had a visit from Mr Acton who delivered a Physics lesson to the class. Together, they explored the components of an electrical circuit and they were able to construct electrical circuits with success. This acted as a great pre-learn for our Year 6 electricity unit! I wonder how much knowledge we will be able to remember next year!

Year 6 were thrilled when they had a visit from Ms Bradshaw who delivered a Biology lesson to the class. They were able to embed their knowledge of Animals Including Humans and explored the Circulatory System in more detail! It was great to speak to Ms Bradshaw as she was able to tell us all about Science at Outwood and it prepared us for the next stage of our learning!

To aid Year 6 with their learning during their  ‘Animals Including Humans' unit they took a trip to our local high school.  This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to look at the parts of a heart and learn about the different components of blood by creating a blood cocktail!

The children visited Haydock High School where they worked hard on their scientific enquiry skills in the science labs. The children  really enjoyed the experience that has not only increased their enthusiasm for the subject but will also help to bridge the transition from Primary to Secondary School next year.
