Grange Valley Primary & Nursery School

  1. Our Curriculum
  2. Our Music

A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. [DfE, 2013]

At Grange Valley we believe that music has the potential to make a significant contribution to children’s development: increasing confidence and self-esteem, developing leadership, team working, concentration and problem-solving skills, and developing identity and improving social cohesion within the school and wider community.

Music is a compulsory subject and is taught to and experienced by all children in Key Stages 1, Key Stage 2. At Grange Valley we also offer Brass Tuition to children once they get into Year 4. Wider opportunities are also offered to all children each year through the St.Helens Music Service. We currently have children who are learning to play the keyboard and guitar.

Hi. I’m Miss Dove and I am the subject lead for Music at Grange Valley Primary School. I have always had a love for music and it has played a huge role within my life for as long as I can remember. I love inspiring others to be passionate about music and showing how music can play a role in everything we do.

Our music curriculum allows prior knowledge to be built upon and enables the children to have a varied and deep understanding of a variety of different genres of music.

It is vital that our music curriculum not only teaches the children the fundamental music skills, but also allows them to understand the deeper meaning of music throughout the centuries.

We value the children’s input to continuing to refine our curriculum ensuring it meet the needs of every Grange Valley child. The aim of mini leaders is to enhance children’s personal development skill whilst making a positive difference to our school. Teams will meet at least once every half term.
