Art Day

All classes across school celebrated different artists. Each class chose an artist to learn about, and learn the techniques used by that artist. The children then used what they had learnt to create pieces of art in the style of their chosen artist and produce fantastic pieces of writing. We have turned our school hall into an art gallery, with display of each year groups art work, dedicated to their chosen artist.

EYFS - Jackson Pollock

Nursery and Reception chose to learn about Jackson Pollock. Jackson Pollock was an American artist who became an abstract expressionist. He was famous for his 'drip technique' with paint. Nursery and Reception children had so much fun using this same technique to create our own pieces of art. We also created our own individual Jackson Pollock's using 'puffy paint', it was very messy and lots of fun!

Year 1 - Wassily Kandinsky

Year 1's artist of choice to study was Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky was an abstract artist from Russia, who liked to paint whilst listening to classical music. The children in year 1 chose to create their own versions on Kandinsky's 'Squares with Concentric Circles' from 1913. Year 1 took on the role of their artist and also enjoyed listening to classical music as they painted.

Year 2 - Van Gogh

Children in Year 2 chose to learn about Van Gogh. Van Gogh was a Dutch impressionist painter, who liked to paint self portraits, landscapes and still pictures. Year two worked together to create a large version of Van Gogh's 'The Starry Night' from 1889, ad worked independently to create their interpretations of 'Still Life: Vase with Twelve Sunflowers' from 1888.

Year 3 - Romero Britto

Year 3 focused on Brazilian artist, Romero Britto. Romero liked to use a combination of pop art, cubism, and graffiti in his work. Year 3 became very creative and designed individual pieces of pop art using Romero Britto's influence. Their display in the hall looks fantastic!

Year 4 - Claude Monet

Year 4's artist was Claude Monet. Monet was an impressionist painter from France, he enjoyed painting landscapes, particularly the French countryside. Year  recreated 'Bridge Over Water Lillies' from 1915, however, they put their own twist on it as they used the pointillism concept, to create their paintings with their fingers.

Year 5 - L.S Lowry

L.S Lowry was an English painter from Salford. Lowry was most famous for his painting of industrial districts in the North West of England. He developed a distinctive style of painting and is best known for his urban landscapes peopled with human figures often referred to as "matchstick men". Year 5 worked hard to recreate their own scenes with match stick men.
