Welcome to Year 3's Blog

Friday 11th July 2014

We began this week with a lovely trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium.  The children really enjoyed looking at all the different creatures, although Ewan looked a little worried when he almost ended up in the eel tank! I was extremely proud of how all the children behaved and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Although we haven't been in school much this week we have still got lots of work done!! In Literacy we have begun to look at shape poetry.  The children created a variety of calligrams in their books.  They also looked at a variety of shape poems and chose their favourite.  They then read it aloud to the class and explained why they had chosen that particular poem.

In Numeracy we have been looking at division with remainders.  I was amazed at how well the children picked it up and some even began to look at the bus stop method.

For our Topic lessons we looked at the different countries that have competed in the World Cup this year and located them on a map of the World using atlases and ICT.  Hopefully the children will have remembered some of the countries that they discovered, as last week I was informed that Wales was actually Brazil!

Awards this week are for 'Coping with Change' and are as follows:  Gold Award - Ethan, Silver Award - Jack, Bronze Award - Ann and Writer of the Week - Rose.  The Star of the Week Award this week goes to a young man who could have received the award every single week.  He tries hard in everything he does and has coped well with several changes in school.  He always uses his manners and displays an excellent standard of behaviour at all times.  It has also been lovely to watch him grow in confidence over the school year and to see his personality really begin to shine through...CONGRATULATIONS EWAN!!

Can I remind all Year 3 children to bring a clear water bottle containing water into school on Monday morning.

Have a lovely weekend

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott

Friday 4th July 2014

This week in our Topic lessons we have been looking at favelas and the difference in the distribution of wealth across Brazil.  The children have drawn their own favelas and have learnt lots about who lives there, what they are made from and where they are found.  We have also begun to look at why people who live in the favelas are unhappy about the World Cup being held in Brazil.  We are going to look at this in more detail next week when we complete a role play/debate activity.

We have also been painting a favela display on the wall in class.  I will update the blog with a picture when it is completed!

The children have also looked at performance poetry and have performed the popular poem 'Gran Can You Rap?' by Jack Ousbey. It was a fantastic performance from all of the children and they really enjoyed taking part.

In music the children have all performed a routine to the song 'Mo Paco Meeno Sway'.  They are fabulous and I will take pictures to put on the website when the children have all performed their dances.

Award winners this week are as follows - Gold Award - Eva, Silver Award - Poppy, Bronze Award - Wade, Writer of the Week - Alisha.  The Star of the Week award this week goes to somebody who I am extremely proud of for a number of reasons.  He has worked very hard to develop his handwriting skills and has taken more time with his work.  He has also been a shining example of how to behave in class and has put his hand up when he wanted to speak, sat perfectly on the carpet and lined up without talking.  I am very pleased to say that the winner this week is...Ethan!! A big well done to all the award winners this week!!

On Monday we will be visiting the Blue Planet Aquarium!  Can I ask that all parents provide a packed lunch for their child that is clearly labelled with their name.  The coach will be leaving school at 09:00 am, therefore children must be in school at 08:50 am.

Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you on Monday!

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott

Friday 27th June 2014

We have had another fantastic week in Year 3 this week!  We have continued to look at Brazil and the World Cup.  We have used our designs to paint our own replica World Cup trophies.  They just need a few finishing touches and they will be ready to go home.

In Literacy we have written our own adventure stories using the structure of The Hodgeheg.  We used compound words to create a 'muddled up' animal, such as a Flybutter or a Snakerattle, and wrote about their adventures.  In creative writing today we imagined there was an alien under our bed and wrote stories of how they got there, what they were like and what happened next.  The children came up with some super ideas and really enjoyed writing their stories.

In Numeracy we have been looking at subtraction.  The children have enjoyed learning different strategies to find the difference between two numbers.  Everybody worked hard and solved some tricky questions but I would like to give a special mention to Owen.  Owen worked so hard on developing his understanding of finding the difference and even took some questions home to solve!

Today we have had a special visitor in assembly.  Elizabeth from The Ned Show came all the way from America to give us a motivational talk about how we can achieve our goals.  The children were enthralled and enjoyed watching the special tricks that Elizabeth could perform with a yo-yo.  Grace was chosen to stand at the front and discuss what she would do to improve in her swimming lessons.  Elizabeth was so impressed with Grace's comments that she gave her a balloon crown and a cosmic spin yo-yo as a prize!  If anybody else would like to purchase a yo-yo, they will be on sale in school next week.

Award winners this week are as follows:  Gold Award - Jason, Silver Award - Lola, Bronze Award - Alisha, Writer of the Week - Daniel and Star of the Week - Owen.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all on Monday!

Friday 20th June 2014

This week in Year 3 we have begun to look at expanded column addition.  The children have worked extremely hard and some have even added tens of thousands!

In Literacy, we have continued to read The Hodgeheg.  We have looked at compound words and used some to create muddled up animal descriptions.  We have also written a diary entry from Max's point of view.

We have also begun to make our own World Cup Trophies!!  We got a little bit messy when making the paper mache, but we had lots of fun!!  Next week we will continue to make them and paint our designs on.

Can I please remind all parents that children need a t-shirt for Sports Day that is the same colour as their house team in school by Monday.  They will also need to have sun cream applied on Wednesday and bring in hats and clear plastic water bottles.  No fizzy drinks or juice allowed.

Award winners this week are as follows:  Gold Award - Ruby, Silver Award - Wade, Bronze Award - Jasmine, Writer of the Week - Jason and Star of the Week - Leila.

Have a super weekend

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott

Friday 13th June 2014

Another super week in Year 3!

In Literacy this week the children have used their research on hedgehogs to write their own non-chronological reports including information about their habitat, their appearance and diet.  They were all fantastic and extremely informative!  We also visited Haydock Library where Mrs Tapeley read everybody a Horrid Henry story.  The children then completed some alliteration and adjectives activities.  All of the children thought of some excellent adjectives to go before their own name such as Excited Ellia, Adventurous Ann and Coconut Conner!  There were a few cheeky ones created for myself and Miss Abbott also, such as Miss Mean and Terrible Teachers!

In Numeracy this we have been looking at classifying and sorting data in Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams.  Hexagons worked with some tricky times tables and developed their understanding of prime numbers, whilst Pentagons worked hard to learn more about square numbers and how to sort them into a Carroll diagram.  The children also looked at different units of time and how to convert them.

We have also started a new topic on Brazil and the World Cup which the children are really enjoying.  So far we have located Brazil on a World map and have created factfiles for some of the major cities that are hosting World Cup matches.  Today the children have designed their own World Cup trophy which they will start to make next week using the plastic bottles that we have collected.  If anybody has any spare plastic bottles or newspapers they will be gratefully received!

The theme for the awards this week is respect and are as follows:  Gold Award - Gregory, Silver Award - Ellia, Bronze Award - Cieran.  The Writer of the Week Award goes to somebody who could win the award every single week as his work is excellent and I always look forward to marking it - Adam. The Star of the Week award goes to a young lady who has been extremely brave this week and has made Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott very proud - Lola.  She has also recently earned her pen licence and consistently produces fantastic work in all lessons.  A big well done to all our award winners this week!

Enjoy the lovely weather this weekend Year 3 and we will see you next week

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott

Friday 06th June 2014

Lovely to see everybody back!

In Literacy this week he have started to look at a new book called 'The Hodgeheg'.  The children have already used their predictions to write the first page of the story and written a set of instructions for Max the Hodgeheg to cross the road safely.  We have also conducted some hedgehog research so that we can write an information text next week.

In Numeracy the children have looked at mass, converting kilograms into grams and vice versa.

Thank you to everybody who has sent in a coca-cola bottle!  Please send as many in as possible.

Have a super weekend!

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott

Thursday 05th June 2014

Just a reminder that school photos are being taken tomorrow!

Also, could parents please save empty coca-cola bottles (500ml size if possible!).  I will be collecting as many as I can but will not be able to collect 28!  They will be used as part of an exciting project in our new top secret topic!

Thanks

Miss Sanson

Friday 23rd May 2014

After a busy week in Year 3 we are glad that half term is here!

The children have worked extremely hard to create their own adventure story using ideas from The Minpins.  They have put a lot of time and effort into their work and have written over two pages.  Some have even written six!

On Thursday we participated in a sponsored skip in aid of the British Heart Foundation.  The children have all enjoying practising their skipping and raising money for a worthwhile cause.

Today we have spent some time looking at the life cycle of plants and have planted our own sunflower seeds so that we can track their progress over the next few weeks.  In creative writing the children have created their own treasure map.  Homework for over the holidays is to write a story of how they found their treasure map and the journey they faced to find the treasure.

Award winners this week are as follows - Gold Award - Poppy, Silver Award - Adam, Bronze Award - Leila.  Star of the Week - Ellia.

Have a lovely half term break Year 3!

Friday 2nd May 2014

In Numeracy this week we have been looking at multiplication and division.  The children started off with developing their understanding of the four times table and related division facts.  We then moved on to looking at using the grid method to help us to work out the answers to larger multiplication questions.  We also looked at word problems where we had to decide whether we needed to use multiplication or division.

We have continued to look at homophones.  This week we have looked at 'where', 'we're' and 'were'.  We looked at the different definitions and put them into sentences.

For our Science lessons we have started to look at Plants.  The children discussed what they already knew and what they would like to find out.  We have thought of some questions to investigate so we are looking forward to some more practical lessons next week.

Congratulations to all our award winners this week!  Awards this week go to - Gold Award - Adam, Silver - Connor, Bronze - Alisha, Writer - Conner and Star of the Week - Eva.

Next Thursday we will be having a sponsored skip in aid of Healthy Heart Week.  Children are asked to dress in sports clothes and bring a pound in to school.

Have a lovely long weekend everybody!

Friday 25th April 2014

This week we have been very busy in Year 3.  In Literacy, we started to look at a story by Roald Dahl called The Minpins.  The children made predictions and used them to write their own blurb.  We then shared the blurb the next day and began to read the book.  Next we drew a minpin with labels using the description from the text and used this to write a character description.

We have also been looking at homophones.  The children have participated in many activities where they have had to choose the correct spelling of their, there or they’re to complete a sentence.

In Numeracy we have been ordering numbers using a number line and also doubling using a partitioning method.  Some of the children have doubled some extremely large numbers using the new technique!

Thank you to all the parents who spent time creating minibeasts over the Easter holidays.  They are fantastic and will be going up in the classroom as part of our display.  If anyone would still like to make one, I have given the children until Monday.

I would also like to welcome Ellie to the class.  She arrived on Tuesday and has worked hard all week.  I was also very impressed with her ju-jitsu certificate and belt!

Awards this week are as follows – Gold Award – Emma, Silver Award – Jason, Bronze Award - Ann, Writer of the Week – Molly and Star of the Week - Conner.

Have a super weekend!

Friday 4th April 2014

What a busy week we've had in Year 3 this week!

In Literacy we have been creating Spring/Summer poems to go on display in the hall.  The children thought of words that they associate with Spring and Summer and then chose one season to focus on and write their poem which including a variety of poetic features such as alliteration, repetition, rhyme and onomatopoeia.

On Wednesday we went to Haydock High School to participate in the Health Day which they very kindly invited us to.  The children enjoyed many different activities such as making fruit kebabs/magnets, peer massage, multi-skills, dance, ICT and writing poems.  There was a lot to learn and it was a fantastic day,  although both Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott were very tired at the end of it!

Today we had our spy party which was also lots of fun!  The children enjoyed their pyjama party and playing on the Kinect until it was time to go into assembly.  Assembly this week was very interesting and we shared the Easter story.  The Easter bunny also made an appearance and was kind enough to give everybody at Grange Valley an egg.  Finally the winners of the Easter egg competition were revealed and Rose was chosen to be the winner for Year 3 for her super skateboarding egg!

Congratulations to all our award winners!  Awards this week go to - Gold Award - Ellia, Silver Award - Conner, Bronze Award - Rose, Writer of the Week - Poppy and Star of the Week - Gregory.

Have a fantastic Easter break Year 3 and we will see you soon

In Literacy this week the children have worked extremely hard.  They have created their own fractured fairytales, where they mixed up some well-known fairytales and used the characters, settings and storylines to make their own version.  The stories were so good that they will be on display in the classroom if anyone wants to come and have a look!  Once they had finished their fractured fairytales they wrote a blurb to describe the book to anyone who wanted to read it. Finally, we shared the story of The Gingerbread Man as a class and wrote a newspaper article based upon the story.

In Numeracy we looked at partitioning again (Homework this week is word problems that need to be solved using this method). We have also looked at some money problems within partitioning and applied the same rules.

Merit awards this week are as follows - Bronze Award - Ann, Silver Award - Leila, Gold Award - Jack.  Writer of the Week - Owen and Star of the Week - Harley.

I am also pleased to announce that two children have been awarded with their pen licenses today!! A big well done to Poppy and Adam for consistently using cursive writing in their Literacy work and their Creative Writing books.  I'm sure there will be many more to come!

We have started to look at a new book in Literacy called The Book Eating Boy and the children have produced some super work.  In Topic we have been looking at Robots and have been begun to create a powerpoint of what we have learnt.  We also did a piece about a lonely robot in creative writing this morning.

Thank you to all parents who have helped to build robots over the holidays!  They are fantastic and are on display in class.  We will be choosing a winner on Monday to allow time for everybody to bring their robot or design in.

Congratulations to all our award winners this week!! Awards go to:  Bronze - Owen B, Silver - Ellia S, Gold - Connor Mc and Writer of the Week - Jasmine H.

Our Star of the Week is Jack J.  Jack has won this award as he has tried hard in all his lessons and has contributed well to class discussions.

All children have been provided with their spellings for the week and also handwriting sheets to match.  In addition, there are individual letters for your child to practise their letter formations if they wish to.  The packs are for the children to complete as they wish, and there is no rush to get them done.

Can I just remind parents that we are dressing up next Friday for National Storytelling Week.  The theme for this year is Fairytales and we will be looking at a variety in Literacy next week.

Have a super weekend!

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott.

As it is National Storytelling Week, Year 3 will be looking at a variety of stories.  If anyone has a favourite storybook, please bring it in and we will share the book with the class.  Miss Sanson has brought some of her own favourites in just in case!

Just a quick reminder about Wednesday.  The children are all invited to come back to school at 6pm for a 'Bed Time Story Experience'.  They can come in their pyjamas and we will share stories and drink hot chocolate.  If your child would like to attend please return the slip that was sent home last week.  I have already had quite a few back!

Last weeks award winners were - Bronze Award - Poppy M, Silver Award - Eva F, Gold Award - Rose H, Writer of the Week - Wade EC

Thursday 23rd January 2014

This week we have been working hard in our Literacy lessons to produce our own versions of Kit Wright's poem 'The Magic Box'.  The children have been encouraged to include lots of different features such as calligrams, personification, similies and alliteration.  All of the children have worked extremely hard and we now have lots of work to go on our Literacy display.

In numeracy we have been focusing on different addition and subtraction methods.  The children had already looked at partitioning and we have looked at using number lines today.  This is to help the children to find a method which suits them.

We have also been adding information to our rainforest powerpoints.  Last week the children created a title slide and inserted pictures and text.  This week we have added a rainforest facts slide which we then added transition effects to.  The children had lots of fun making their individual slides and also now know how to add animations to text and pictures.

In Science we have continued to look at materials and their properties.  We conducted an investigation into which paper towel was the strongest and which was the most absorbent.  We made predictions and compared them with the end results, some of which were quite surprising!

Thank you to the parents who have returned slips for the 'Bed Time Story Experience' to celebrate National Storytelling Week. We will be sharing lots of stories throughout the week to ensure that any children who cannot come back on Wednesday evening still get to share stories as a class.  Could any parents who have not yet returned their slip please return them as soon as possible.

Many thanks

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott

Friday 17th January 2014

We have had a lovely day in Year 3 today.  We had a fabulous party this afternoon with lots of treats!  The children all had a fantastic time and shared their toys.

Numeracy homework for this week is based on what we have been doing in class.  The children are to use the partitioning method that they have learnt this week to solve the addition/subtraction questions.

In Literacy we have written lots of stories about magic and have focused on punctuation, connectives, adjectives and adverbs.  Molly Senior wrote a fantastic piece of work about a magic brush in today's creative writing lesson, so a big well done to Molly!

Awards for this week go to:  Bronze Award - Adam A, Silver Award - Rose H, Gold Award - Molly S and Writer of the Week - Daniel M.  I will update the Star of the Week on Monday as I didn't have time to announce this weeks winner as tidying up our toys took longer than expected!

Have a lovely weekend Year 3.

See you on Monday!

Miss Sanson

Thursday 16th January 2014

Just a quick note to confirm that Year 3 will not be dressing up as spies tomorrow.  We will be having a spy party and the children can bring in their own toys.  Please do not send in anything electronic or of value, such as tablets, iPads, laptops etc.

We are going to have a cinema at the front of the classroom and will be showing a spy film.  The children will be provided with juice, popcorn and doughnuts.  I will put pictures so you can see how much fun we had!!

Tuesday 8th January 2014

Happy New Year to all children and parents!

We have had a busy couple of days so far this week and are now getting back into the swing of things!

In Numeracy this week we have been looking at capacity.  Today we had lots of fun and measured different sized containers to find their capacities.  We all worked extremely hard and none of us got wet (surprisingly!).

In Literacy we are starting to look at a new book that incorporates magic.  Yesterday we performed magic tricks to the class and made notes of how we had done them so that we were ready to write our instructions today.

We are continuing to look at the Rainforest in Topic lessons and have lots of fun and exciting lessons planned for the next few weeks!

Dance Club letters will be going out this evening.  Letters must be returned as soon as possible to try and ensure a place is available for your child.

On a side note, could all parents please check at home to see if they have a coat that doesn't belong to their child as we have one that has gone missing.

Many thanks

Miss Sanson

Friday 13th December

We have had a lovely day in Year 3 today.  This morning we visited Christ Church to learn all about the story of Christmas.  While we were there, the children also had the opportunity to make some Christmas crafts.

This afternoon was spent completing our factfiles on the animals of the rainforest.

Next week have lots of exciting activities to look forward to.  As we have been looking at prisms in Numeracy, we are going to make Christmas prism decorations filled with sweets to hang on the tree.  We also have the Christmas dinner, KS2 party and the X Factor performance.

Thank you to all the parents who have put their names down for party food.  We still need more volunteers for sandwiches and sweets if anybody else is able to help.

Could all parents also remember to provide a cowboy costume for Wednesday if possible and could all independent reading books/reading records be returned to school.

This week it was extremely difficult to pick the Star of the Week as all of the children in Year 3 have been so fantastic.  Eventually we narrowed the candidates down to two and as we couldn't choose between them, we chose both! Both myself and Miss Abbott have noticed how hard both of the children have tried this week and we are really proud of them so...

Congratulations to Cieran and Ethan who are this week's Stars of the Week!!

Have a lovely weekend Year 3!  We are looking forward to lots of Christmas fun with you next week :)

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott.

Tuesday 10th December

Today we have been busy making Christmas tree cards for our families.  We have spent lots of time and effort making them extra special so we hope that you like them!  We have also practiced our X Factor performance all the way through and it is getting better and better each time.

After a busy day making cards and performing our X Factor songs we spent this afternoon watching the KS1 Christmas performance.  It was lots of fun and all of the children really enjoyed it.

Thanks to all the parents who have put their names down for party food!

Also, could all parents ensure that permission slips are returned for our trip to Christ Church on Friday.  If anyone requires another copy please let Miss Sanson or Miss Abbott know :)

Our cards on display.
Our cards on display.
Now that our Year 3 tree has lights the classroom is looking lovely and Christmassy. The children will be making snowflakes to put on the display behind the tree so keep your eyes peeled for an updated picture soon.

Monday 9th December

Last week we put up the class tree and decorated the room with lots of Christmas decorations to get us in the mood for Christmas!  We have also been practicing our singing and dancing for GV's got the X Factor.  In Topic we have created our own information booklets using ICT and painted Rainforest animals to add to our Rainforest display.

Today we went to watch Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal.  We all had lots of fun shouting at the baddies!!

Well done to James who is this week's Star of the Week!!

Friday 29th November

We have had a very busy week in Year 3 this week!  In Literacy we began to look at 'The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon' by Mini Grey.  On Monday we looked at the illustrations on the front cover and used it to make predictions of what the story might be about.  Some of the children were very pleased when we actually read the story on Tuesday as some of them had got their predictions correct.  In Numeracy we have looked at ordering numbers, some children have ordered numbers up to 10,000 which is amazing!  We have also been practicing our acts and songs for the talent show.  The children will be auditioning on Monday so they need to get lots of practice in this weekend in order to make the cut!

Well done to Grace who is this week's Star of the Week!!

Have a lovely weekend Year 3.  See you on Monday!!

Miss Sanson and Miss Abbott.

Friday 22nd November

This week in Y3 we have started our new topic about Rainforests.  We are researching this topic and compiling our own fact file. We had a very special visitor this week Duncan came to visit after receiving our letters. This week has been anti bullying week and we were able to help Duncan make new friends. We shared the story of the Rainbow Fish with Duncan and we made our very own Friend Fish!

Tonight is Race Night at the C&B Club 7.30 am hope to see you all there!

Friday 15th November                                     Children in Need 2013

Another exciting week in Y3! We received a letter from Duncan to say that he didn't feel up to coming to visit us at the moment, he has had a very sad week at school, some children had been calling him names and not letting him join in any games. Y3 were very disappointed and are going to write to him next week to try and help him to feel better.

Today we have had lots of fun coming to school dressed as our favourite Super Hero and we produced some lovely writing about this. In Maths we had to solve some Pudsey Bear multiplication and division problems. Pudsey came to work with us in class today, as we were the best class in assembly this morning. In assembly we found out all about some children who are not as lucky as we are who will be supported by the Children in Need charity. A big thank you to parents and carers for supporting us today with costumes the children looked amazing, see for yourself below!

Well done to Gregory who is this week’s Star of the Week.

Have a lovely weekend from Mrs Threlkeld, Mrs Abbott and Miss Sanson.

WC Monday 11th November

Today the children were really excited when they arrived in school to notice that our house had a new sign outside, ‘Duncan’s Den!’  The children remembered Duncan from our story last week. Mrs Abbott spoke to the estate agent who confirmed that Duncan will be moving in shortly!  The children had lots of questions, for example they were keen to know if he will still let us read in his house, and hope he can help us with our writing, in particular our spelling.  We decided to write a list of our questions to ask Duncan when we eventually meet him.

Friday 8th November

Well done to Poppy who is this week’s Star of the Week.

The children have worked so hard this week I am so proud of them! Along with all our assessments we have produced some lovely firework poems by candleight using onomatopoeic words.  We also found out all about Remembrance Day and made a cross and poppy with our own special remembrance thoughts.  We read a lovely story about Duncan and his tree house and produced some fantastic storiesof our own about Duncan’s adventure when he lost his dog in the forest.

Reminder to Children!

I have updated Education City this week following my assessments and identified games specifically for individual children in order to support their next steps in learning. The games start with some revision and then move onto areas that children need to work on.  Children can access these games through their own ‘My City’ tab on the home page once they have logged in.

Have fun!

WB Monday 4th November

This week is Assessment Week so there is no homework, children will have worked hard enough by Friday!  Letters have gone out tonight for Parents' Evening, please return slips with your preferred time.

Friday 1st November

Congratulations to Eva - Star of the week!

This week in Maths we have been measuring in metres and centimetres using decimal notation.  The children had great fun estimating the length of Peter Pumpkin’s belt!  Adam's estimate of 1m was the closest and he won our competition. We also measured lots of other spooky items such as broomsticks and cauldrons!  In Literacy we have been learning about Myths and Legends and because this weekend sees the start of the Hindu festival of Diwali we read and produced some lovely writing about the story of Rama and Sita.

Lots of strange things have happened this week in our class.  On Wednesday when we arrived into school a massive tree had grown across our classroom! When we arrived into school today we noticed that the Storyteller had his house up for sale!  When we returned from lunch a sold sign had appeared!  We are all very excited to find out who will be moving in!

Have a lovely weekend everyone and don’t forget to keep safe, remembering what we talked about today if you are having fireworks this weekend.

Congratulations to Ellia - Star of the week!

This week in Literacy we have been looking at books by the author John Burningham - 'Simp' and 'Borka', looking at how settings change in stories. The children have written short descriptions and and have looked at sentences using adjectives and nouns for precision and impact. We also looked at how we could re-tell the story through a story mountain and the children had to track Simp's journey. The children really enjoyed this authors book and at the end of the week we had the opportunity

to write a book review.

In Maths we have been practising our addition and subtraction facts to 20 and extending our knowledge to pairs of numbers that make 1000, for example 900 + 100 = 1000. Can you please practise number bonds to 10 and 20 with your child in preparation for some activities that they will be taking part in next week.

We were adding up three coins and totalling amounts, we even looked at adding up four amounts to challenge ourselves. This was a fab activity on Abacus. Please remember to try these activities at home as I have allocated games to all of you.

The children have started the Egyptians topic this week and we have got lots of fun activities to complete this term. We even played who wants to be a millionaire (Ancient Egypt) edition and Ann was in the hotseat. The audience made a big difference in helping Ann to get one of the questions right, well done all you excellent listeners!!!!

In Literacy this week we have been working hard to improve our sentences, in particular capital letters, commas and full stops. The children worked with their talking partners to complete some activities in our ICT Suite.
